Keep in mind, there was a huge military build up around 3030.

For a long time you might see a lance assist a conventional force in attacking a planet. A company is was possible back then but a bit rare. You read Decision at Thunder Rift and then compare it to the forces displayed on the same planet in 3049, and it's a huge difference.

By the time the 3050's came about, mechs were being fielded by the regiments and battalions.

The clans on the other hand, would have had the tech advantage and less of a numbers disadvantage. The Com Guards weren't trained or operational. They had a load of Star League mechs and no pilots yet. Heck even Anastasius Focht didn't exist. (Trying to avoid a spoiler there LoL)

Without that 40 year gap, I wonder how many of the Bloodnamed Dragoons would be there and would choose to answer the return signal? Could you imagine a Wolf Clan army led by not just the Black Widow, but her peers as well?

There was a buildup around 3030, but we are talking about an invasion 30 years before that, when the Clans would have a tremendous advantage in 'Mech numbers. You would see a company of 'Mechs at most (supported by conventional forces) defending against entire reinforced Galaxies. It would not have been a pleasant surprise for the Inner Sphere.

Well, let see... I'm pretty sure the Clans would've at least gotten to Terra, no problem really. At that point, the FRR was not yet formed, and there was a lot of uprisings in that area of space. The Draconis Combine was stretched thin, and every house was fighting with every other house. By the time the entire Inner Sphere could've mobilized against the Clans, they would have gotten to the Truce line, and then I would imagine that the final deciding battle would've actually been fought on Terra itself.

See the thing is, when the Clans reach Terra they no longer become individual Clans, they become one Clan with the individual Clans sort of being, military groups instead of separate toumans. The IlClan becomes the supreme Clan, and then the Clans would restablish the Star League. I would see the Steel Viper's view being strengthened then, where they feel the Clans should just retake the previous Terran Hegemony worlds and then try to work with the IS to re-establish the Star League.

Eitherway, the whole force of the Clans would then come to the Sphere with minimal defenses safe guarding the Clans homeworlds... but sorry, the combined might of the Warriors of Kerensky...

A Clan invasion pre-3030 would have been nearly impossible to stop. At some point though, the Inner Sphere and ComStar would have resorted to straight NBC warfare. Regardless of the success of the invasion or IS reprisals (or Clan counter-reprisals) the Children of Kerensky would inevitably either fail due to sheer numbers or more likely they would have turned against themselves.
It is all rather pointless though, since any grand unification would ruin the setting as a whole and therefore it would somehow be averted by General Author Fiat in his DEM-42-X Deus Ex Machina.
