I am just guessing at this point, but Id imagine that the servers could handle , oh 25k more people without breaking a sweat. So why not release even a token amount of keys each week at this point?
Tbh, the impression I get at this point is someone made a decision to say "well no more keys till open beta, if they wanna play that badly they'll pay"
I understand that logic perfectly, I just wish there was a bit of clarification as to the closed beta process at this point, which I dont believe there has been.
THe end result of that is a lot of people who contine to wait and wait. . I dont have the time to play anyways, but as someone who has been here since day 1 I can understand people being miffed as pending has become a chronic condition.

Oh this game, let me see if I can play to.
You wouldn't pay for a plane flight without getting on the plane first.
You wouldn't pay for a haircut without wearing a wig that looks like it first.
Did it do it right?
Actually no you are completely wrong.
A plane flight is a pretty well known commodity. Everyone pretty much knows what to expect. Now had you wanted to BUY the plane, I expect EVERYONE would want ot fly it first before laying down the cash.
And the haircut.... well once again, wrong. You don't pay upfront for that. If it's not what you want you don't pay.
Buying a MWO pack now is a sight unseen purchase. In Open beta all your purchases would be validated before you spend teh money by your experience.

The money spent here is worth it, vs what you get from the big boys. Sometimes it takes a little faith, but I know how the gaming community has been burned over the past few years. Take EA, and the Battlefield series.
BF3 came out with there premium and if you dont buy it you cant play on premium servers, which at this point almost all are. So you are locked out unless you fork over another 60 bucks. And right after folks bought the promise of 4 addons they annouce BF4.
As far as random free keys, I doubt it, they are making tons more cash then they thought they would. In fact the window was suppost to close on buying the founder stuff on Aug 7, but they have now kept it open untill open beta.
Why do something for free, when you can get folks to pay for it. But it keeps the lights on and the minions at work so thats good. And the cash alows them to take there time, and not release an unfinish product, like most games are now.

It would only be good business sense to not do any more free beta invites until founders is not on sale any more though.

I love this guy. You're so right about this damn community, so many of these people seem to be ******** just because they know more about the game and the history of the series. Online gaming and it's community really sickens me.

Ikillzyou and #32SuperClone,
I would tend to agree that some people treat people who lack the knowledge, or ask a "stupid" question, badly. It isn't just this community, it happens in many communities and interest groups. The way I look at it, the really rude people tend to be the loudest, while the nice ones tend to simply answer the question. I always try to treat those who are new with respect, since I know that I was new to it at some point in time. I hope that you two and the OP stick around, we are a good community that would like the Battletech universe to be widely known and enjoyed. We also would enjoy seeing more new Mechwarriors join our ranks. Hopefully we get to cross paths in the future as allies or enemies on the battlefields of tomorrow.
Arguss10,
Unfortunatly I couldn't tell you about the ping from where you are. I hope that someone comes along that can help you with your decision.

the OP simply asked if there was a plan for future release of CBT keys, beyond Founders Pack purchases, because the original news articles were about signing up for CBT and having a real chance to help test the game. then, the Founders packs came along and any chance for CBT invites to non-founders went out the window. in the business world, that's referred to as bait and switch. promise something, then, when they arrive at your store, you give them something else.
i understand perfectly why PGI would do things the way they have done them. and i have no problem waiting for OBT to have a chance to see if i'm going to love this game the way i have every MW game since the original, and playing TT before that. but that doesn't mean i wouldn't like to know what the plan is from here. they suggested OBT would begin by the end of summer, which means just over a month. they also implied there would be more to CBT, after Aug 7, than just inclusion of all Founders. they never said Aug 7 was early access to OBT, or that would have explained the so called early access. so, yes, it would be nice to have actual clarification from the devs or Russ, himself.
but, until then, those who can't afford founders packs or are unwilling to pay for them need to be patient and let PGI update their plan, then update their community. and Founders need to get off their high horse and realize not everyone has even $30 to drop on a game, right now, let alone $60 or $120, and some who might aren't willing to drop it on something with very little real information available to justify their purchase. yes, i know. you all feel like "if you love the series, then you gotta help make this work". but that's not enough for a lot of people, given the way things have gone with so many games, of late. that doesn't make them any less fans of the series. and the fact you dropped your cash on the game doesn't prove you are more of a fan. it proves only that you have the money to spend on it and decided you would do that. i think, if you sorted every founder out into groups, by their real info, you would find 1 group that really and truly loves the series and wants to make it happen right, another who love the games, but really wanted all the perks when it hits, a 3rd group who spent money they don't really have on something they really hope is as good as advertised and yet another group who has no idea what the game is even about, but they spent money to gain access and be a "member" of an exclusive group, ahead of other people. you know there are people who bought founders just for the membership in an exclusive group and a shot at a new to them game. and half of them will be gone to their next game by november or december, even with their initial investment.

I guess you'd count me as not a true fan either .. even though i stil have every copy of every mechwarrior game ever released . and i have a closet full of battletech pen and papper gaming source material. But i'm currently going to school for game art design and have no job , and can't afford a retail game at the momment let alone afford the expense of a beta MMO so i'm not a true fan either I guess.
I think it is save to say we are ALL fan's hear, the depth of one's wallet is not a measure of what's in his/her heart. So please folks stop picking over who has or hasn't bought a founder's pack. I'm pretty sure every fan that plays this game will lay some money into it at some point when they can afford to do so. having bought a founder's pack for early beta acess doesn't make you any more a fan than the next guy just means you got a bigger bank account and bragging aobut that only makes you look like one of two things ... an a-- or a d---.

Like I am sure many others, I got the founders pack before I knew about getting access to the beta because of it...
Fans come in all sorts, and I am sure that even though they are fans, sometimes life gets in the way, and that $30 (or $120 for me) is just not feasible.
Would love to have more people getting access to the beta, just makes for more variation and unpredicability, more laughs, more face-palms...
Every person who plays is a potential diehard fan!
As for the ping rates from Australia ... I am SW Queensland, and things are normally fine and playable, occassional splutters, but few and far between.
Will see you all sooner or later

You wont get kicked off because of high ping like a privately hosted server, unless its massivly high and you lag out or something. Then you might disconnect. Just like any other multiplayer game in that respect.
WoT should be a fairly good guide as to what the pings from australia will be around come launch afaik. Shouldn't be anything us aussies aren't used to by now tbh.
