"missions"?!??? This is not like a single player game. You probably meant game mode though. Basing off of that, I would say drop ships should be avoided in any incarnation. Virtually a single hole in a drop ship's armor means it cannot take off, because hull integrity is compromised. In most cases, cornered drop ships would surrender, or have their weapon ports shot if they resisted, as losing a drop ship is far more costly than the incredibly painful loss of a 'Mech.
No. I think maps would be closer. From what I understand there will already be things like turrets in the game. Adding a dropship assault/defense would just add some more flavor. Its not another game mode, just another type of attack/defend map. I think you're grossly overstating how fragile dropships are. We talking ships that are meant to take some hits from aerospace fighters and the like on the way down. These aren't the jumpships. They're combat ships.

Dropships aren't that heavily armed and armored because they dont like trees in their way on landings. Even a Leopard can be a serious obstacle for any assault lance of used correctly. They are not immobile either. If they get down to 50% on armor, fine. Leave. Come back when the mech threat has been handled. they're not made of glass. Most have survived hundreds of years of combat drops. They can take a shot and give three in return.

I like the idea of being able to use the drop ship for the variety of features listed as far as repair, transport or fire support, but as far as being able to pilot it I think that would be a little too much, but maybe having the option for the field commander to be able to simply command the drop ship to move to a location to drop off or pickup players / reinforcements / supplies or whatever the case then that would just be another tool for the tactical command aspect to utilize.

Plus you could go under the dropships before they land and screw up their combustion Chambers with a laser and blow up the whole thing

Well then again, not really, but still, the fact that there could be a simultaneous game conquest mode can really make dropships useful, especially if there are different models

If This game ever goes all out and has star maps with ability to build: citys, military installations, or other things just poping up where there is a full to play option where we can throw out all the war history of the mw series and just use it as a guild line for possible battles. the ability to run raids destory towns and structures would make drop ships very good idea so that there is more mech warrior to this rather than just battletech.

In any military mission the transports drop the warfighters quite a distance away from the actual fight. Unless the vehicle is a "battle taxi" comparable to our current Infantry and Cavalry Fighting Vehicles where the vehicle maintains the majority of the dismounts fire support for deliberate attacks, the Dropship concept wouldn't work. No military commander is going to leave their trans out in the open. A drop will only occur several terrain features away. Generally there is a Patrol Base concept and initial drop zone security procedures.
