Hello there,

The name Clans is really confusing to players who are not familiar with the BT lore.
Most of them assume that the section is for gaming clans.

Could the Clan section be renamed to "Warriors of Kerensky" or something?

Cheers,

Stormwolf

Aff. We do not want to go stackpole over everyone that wants to create a "Clan".

Clans in Battletech/Mecharrior should stay "Clans" Tough on anyone wanting to "make a clan" what's so hard about calling it a "merc corp" or "unit" instead of "Clan" anyway?

I second that request. Name it "Children of Kerensky", every Clanner would immediately know what is meant and as one of my fellow clansmen already stated, we do not want to GO STACKPOLE on non-canon clanfoundings....I like that term... ;)

The alternative to renaming the forum would be creating a sticky thread that explains the difference between clans (the group of factions) and clans (groups of players) and links to the merc corp recruiting forum.

Since such a thread would probably get ignored anyway... renaming is the best idea.

The three stickys in it now do not get seen which should hint strongly that it is not for merc corp style clans, but Clans.

I'm bumping this because we are still getting numerous threads from people who want guys for their gaming clans.

Yes. If it goes on like this, we will all become suicidal by the time that we are supposed to run the show.

It seems like 'general discussion' and 'off topic discussion' have similar problems, e.g. threads which are not related to MW:O get posted in general.

Suggestion:

Rename the Subforum "The Clans" - NOT RECRUITING!

Because "unit" sounds dirty.

Indeed.

Lethal Heritage was published in September 1989.
TRO 3050 was originally published in 1990.

The first modern FPS, Id Software's Wolfenstein 3D, was published in 1992.
The follow-up game, Doom, didn't have LAN capability until 1993.
Neverwinter Nights, the first graphical MMORPG, made its debut in 1991.

The Clans of BT/MW very likely predate the use of the term to describe online gaming clubs by an absolute minimum of two years, and probably by closer to 5+ years; they very likely existed and were designated as such long before the first modern online gaming clubs came into being.

Honestly, those who are confused are very likely so specifically because they can not or will not be bothered to exercise even a modicum of reading comprehension.
What a world, right?

I think they should just make you a moderator of the Clans forum so you can move all of those threads out of there. Or we just keep reporting them until the mods get sick of seeing so many Report buttons, haha.

The issue definitely needs to be addressed. It's been quite a long time with no resolution and plenty of topics that should be moved or closed.

Agreed and for some reason they moved the Clan Wolf thread out for Clans and into Merc Corps....

The alternative is to create an external and separate forum thread where Clansmen know to go and leave the MW:O Clans threads to languish into obscurity.

After all, they do not know we are coming anyway, quiaff?
