There are going to be times where I want to be Commander, but there will also be times I want to scout, or just play a heavy, etc. This is less a suggestion and more curious to how the game will not pidgin hole people into a specific role, or a specific mech (since you can XP for the mech you are piloting specifically).

Look at it this way --- You are being given a greater opportunity to be a unique individual among the sea of mechwarriors. True min/max'ers might get a slight advantage in the system, but I honestly believe it will be minor. I think the system rewards all play types, so we can truely be the type of pilot/mechwarrior we want to be. I dont think its going to be like all the MMORPG's out there with a flavor of the month or a better "spec" that all DPS or TANKS have to run in order to be competitive. Likewise, considering the mechwarrior genre, and the fact that on paper it looks like PGI has the right idea, as long as their simulation is half way decent, a considerable degree of the game will involve true pilot skill over picking the proper "tree" or ability combinations. Just my two cents, I could be wrong, happened before, im sure it will happen again.

But I wonder if we will be able to "cap out" every tree, every mech, etc. Or if we should be able to, for that matter.

[Excerpt taken from above link.]

"...
It is this game cycle that brings customized gameplay to the player experience. The combination of BattleMech Modules and Pilot Abilities will dramatically augment the play style of the player.
..."

The Devs' words about "dramatically augment"...IMHO...it says to me that specialization of a particular role, choosing modules suited to that role and piloting a role-focused Mech will give you a definite advantage over a 'jack-of-all-trades' pilot.

Granted that may only be for the short-term. I said "may" instead of "will", as we don't know how the skill trees are constructed yet (i.e. the skill trees' cap levels, the level of diversity among the skill trees, the level of impact of the skill trees on gameplay, etc.).
