Well you could have missions in the area around the FRR where a group of co-op players try to hold back the clan advance.
Maybe that would shut the Mad Cat fans up too.

This.

What I want in the game (to make it be best MW game of the millennium):
  • PVP: already done (but needs more game modes);
  • "Mech Simulator": you choose your mech, the enemies, the map, the difficulty and go to battle. Player training only, no character XP or credits earned/lost;
  • Solaris Games: just like in MW4, but with human players. The characters will be ranked, can bet, etc.;
  • "Clan Invasion": cooperative playing against waves of AI controles clan mechs;
  • "Clan Trials": want to join the clans or climb their ranks? - prove yourself. Challenges against AI (see MW2 trials).
And in the future a MW5 (like it was planned before) set BEFORE the clan invasions.

Doesn't anyone else like Boss Battles?

Not in Battltech universe.
Unless you are not fighting a mech, but a heavily armed dropship.

Once a player team vs AI team / wave mode is added, if it gets enough appeal and play to justify more content, what we can likely expect and should indeed ask for are more scripted missions. One-off historical battles team vs scripted mission element, scenario modes of varying degrees of complexity (defend the base, convoy escort, assassination of a guarded VIP mech, etc) are all perfectly logical children of that basic PvE mode, and very likely a solid souce of revenue. I doubt there's anyone who loves MechWarrior that can honestly say they wouldn't shell out $2-5 for a really awesome scenario map they can play with a team of their MWO buddies recreating an iconic battle from the backstory for example. While the backstory doesn't support the idea of a big boss spider robot, I'm sure they could come up with something somehow...maybe assaulting a fortress full of guns that belches out waves of minions and you don't win until you blow up the core; it would still be teamwork vs a giant entity.

All in all, keep the discussion rolling. Cheers.

You should post more. I like what you say.

Actually, Russ has already said that PVE "is probably one of the very first things we will explore once our core game is complete and we go Open Beta".

So, there is a non-zero chance that PVE could show up in about 7 months (e.g. when the Clans are due to invade the IS proper), if not sooner...

If they implement this and implement well, they could make a "Godlike" Founder pack for US$ 500.00 and many of us would gladly pay for that.

It is awesome to hear so many like-minded thinkers as myself...I have played MW since MW2, also, altho it wasn't until Mercs that I got into multi-player. The first of ANY kind I had played, and until now, the only one I have ever really gotten invested in...and if I had started that earlier, I would have probably been saved from a couple of disastrous marriages! I knew I wanted to be one of the best, and I spent many hours honing my skills against AI and it payed off...I'm sure there are many old, or newly old, mechwarriors out there who know me. I was also there to witness the very slow, painful death of MW4 online play. I know only that I am very excited with our new universe, and I truly welcome the PVE ideas I have read...not only for the chance to hone my skills, but for the extra awesomeness it will bring to clans, or just friends to get together and have something new happen.
BTW...I am still trying to figure what might be a good clan or merc unit to offer my services to...

I would be all for PVE testing, in both a hybrid-pvp form or a stand-alone campaign. It would definitely give the game that much more depth.

I cannot describe how happy this thread makes me feel.

1- Great discussion and brainstorming of ideas.
2- Adding a great step forward in how this game would evolve. I personally don't see it as an MMO, but more like a MOBA. However, when PVE gets added, in the ways that we have discussed so far, or others that the devs will think of, I believe this game will be it's own niche.

3- Making the Clans random drop in PVP matches would be quite the great prospect. I would enjoy seeing that. I also think that having them not be immediately accessible to the players would be a smart idea, not just from a lore perspective. They are supposed to be the biggest threat the IS has seen since the the original split of the League and Kerensky's exodus. The members of the current houses, and even the mercenaries shouldn't be able to switch sides immediately. Heck, some of them are already viewed as usurpers and parasites that the clans will not easily welcome.

I hope that PVE gets introduced before the clan invasion though. With simple A.I. mercs that drop in to do some sabotage or even a full on assault to resolve the conflict in that map for a third party. That way, when the clans do show up, we would have cleared out a good chunk of the bugs that could ruin the early clan invasion experiences.

After all, they are supposed to be undaunted pilots, and if for some odd reason we start seeing them fire into the ground, get catapulted into the air, or stop, all without reason or because of a glitch, that really takes from it.

I support this idea. And also , PGI could make a PVE "chapter" so to say like the walking dead game did, and release it in 10$ installments per chapter even. That way there wasn't a huge upfront invetsment.

^ LOL! Unholy necromancy! j/k... MUAHAHAHA wall of text time:

Seriously though, good to see folks are still looking through here. I'm suprised you even found this thread as buried as it probably is by now (9 months later)!

(EDIT) Just noticed this thread: http://mwomercs.com/...pdated-april-5/ , so the following really doesn't hold much water now that I know they've been working on a lot of these things... I am still suprised at the order they have been priortized... Seems backwards to me, but meh....

BEWARE: Bitching and moaning below! (/edit)

Yes! Yes! Oh God, yes!!!

I would kill everyone in this forum, and their extended families if it meant that I could get some hot PVE action.
Oh, how I yearn to be able to go back to the days of a Meckwarriah game that appealed by my antisocial tendencies and allowed me to shut myself off from any semblance of human contact. It would be a glorious day, indeed, when I can just blast AI bots, and being forced to play with members of the race I so despise (the human one) is just an unpleasant memory of a dismal past.

LOL! Not sure if 1. Trolling 2. Cry for help 3. Serious (besides the killing people and their families)

But in each case: 1. :D 2. <_< 3. :P

Well in one of he dev interviews they said they tried out PVE first, so that would imply that they have AI scripts for the mechs sitting around somewhere.
Now I would love to see the clans introduced as PVE opponents first. Trying to defend IS territory from their assaults would be a lot of fun.
Or even to have them randomly hot drop into PVP games...

Clan drop ship streaks over head...
The opposing team suddenly reads as friendlies on your IFF...
<Mech power up detected>...
Timber Wolf splashes down 300M from you...

Both teams get XP based on how long they can survive.

Um... Yes please! :P

Giant spider mech never seen by anyone else in the galaxy eh? Reminds me of the good old days in mech assault 2 haha just kidding. Yea I would really love to see some PvE later on after community warfare is put in fully. While other games can get away with strictly PvP (tribes, team fortress, etc) MechWarrior just doesn't roll that way.

The version of mechwarrior at Virtual World was all PvP. I played that for years before mwII came out.
From what I hear, multiplayer battletech was pvp only as well, and that had 3 versions that ran over ~10 years..

The devs have said tanks and infintry would be in the game as AI controlled consumable calldowns. So, like airstrikes, but paratroops.

PVE would be awesome, but I'm willing to wait after CW is added and weapon balance is tweaked. Even if it's something simple like Surive X number of enemy waves it would still be a fun break from pvp.

A little of 1, none of 2 or 3.

Except wanting PVE. PVE is great.

This thread needs to be hand mailed to the Devs' houses. Or is that too creepy?

How about printed out, mailed to PGI's business address, and hand-delivered by singing telegram...? :ph34r: :)

Okay, we can actually do that. Heck, I'm mailing some stuff after the weekend, I'd say I might just do that then, everyone, feel free to hand mail a copy of this thread to PGI, who knows, it might just work. Don't forget to include your usernames, and e-mail addresses so they know that it really was mailed by members of the community.

I know it's not necessary since they have all of this on their servers, but I'm a Network engineer we live and die by redundancy, so sue me XP.
