So awhile back my wife and I were loitering around the fine establishment of Wally-World, when we cruised by the *cough cough* high end electronics section... lol, ok ok, anyway, I/we ended up buying a 32" Samsung 1080p Tv (LN32D403) for nearly half the normal price, (ya gotta love smartphones for on-the-spot price checking) well see the catch was my wife agreed to it under the impression it was going to end up in our bedroom.... hehehehe, ya that didn't happen. So now it sits at my desk hooked up via HDMI cable to my graphics card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 1GB)
Now to the issue: I've messed with just about every setting I can on both the Nvidia control panel and the TV menu, and most everything is still fairly pixel-ated, its on 1080P on the monitor, 1080P in the video card, 1080P on the screen resolution, but still it looks not anywhere near 1080P quality. Especially text. I just figure there has to be something I'm over-looking or forgetting about.

I know I haven't really gotten into specifics, I figure I'd let you guys ask what you need to know in order to provide guidance and wisdom....So any and all help is appreciated!!!

What interface are you using? VGA or HDMI?
If you're not using HDMI first off, that could lead to problems.

Second off, is the TV doing such with other interfaces like stand-alone DVD players or the like?

have you tried just using the screen resolution properties instead of using Nvidia control panel?

If your VGA is one that can support 1080P then use that over HDMI. Neither my desktop nor my gaming laptop will work properly over HDMI when connected to a TV. I've spent hours trying settings and debugging only to come to the conclusion that the image would never appear correctly on the television over HDMI because of how it scales the digital signal.

use the windows screen resolution setting rather than the Nvidia settings.. I own ATI cards but it should work that way...
I know in the ATI settings panel I can do Underscan and Overscan.. I don't know how Nvidia settings are..

Sounds like a scaling issue, i had similar when using my Samsung TV although back then i had an ATI card.

I think Nvidia's equivalent is under display in the NVcontrol pannel (adjust desktop size and position)
So you may need to play around there.

That TV isn't 1080p it is 720p.

  • 31.5" Measured Diagonally
  • 1,366 x 768 Native Resolution

  • 720p HD Resolution

  • 20,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
Have you enabled Cleartype? And are you running it at its native resolution?

Tarl is right on the money. A quick google search showed the same thing. Your TV is low res, it will not hit the higher resolution that you are trying to set.

I have a 32" LCD 720p that I gave to my daughter, thought about using it in my first simpit but the low resolution just gave me a headache. I am now thinking of buying another 32" true 1080p (many say 1080p but are really not..not sure how they can make that claim but that is another matter) for my current Mechpit build. I was really worried when I first looked at your post but after doing a little searching I found the same thing that Tarl Cabot did.

They can't, I would get a refund if that were the case. There are, however, 1080i and 720i resolutions which are essentially half that number in p (i=interlaced p=progressive I believe).

Not sure why anyone would really want to use a big tv since they often don't have higher then 1080p but that is up to them I guess. My friend has a 30" IPS that is 1400p and it looks amazing.
