A lot of chewy info here, thanks guys.

I like the fact that the modules are unique (unstackable). I can see ppl avoiding jump capable 'Mechs to gain quicker access to the Elite lines, not sure how that'll pan out when the game is released.

I'd like to request more info on how/if countermeasures will work in the game, avoiding detection and avoiding all those air/artillery strikes :o

I thought that being chassis specific gave you xp to encourage playing in one mech but from reading this you need to play every variant of a mech to gain elite abilities - this to me means I am no longer being chassis specific. chassis to me means a single mech type & one variant of it only eg. PHX-1D. From BT lore pilots only piloted one mech variant not one mech type & all its variants (I know there were exceptions) so why are we being forced to play all variants to gain higher tiers of elite & up? some canon variants really s&*&^d!!

also this appears that a mechlab really wont exist - choosing a canon variant is NOT a mechlab!!
changing a weapon to a different variant (ie med laser to a faster firing but less damaging med laser) isnt a mechlab!!
MW4 style is not a mechlab (just throwing this in there)

charging & DFA - good starts to melee combat - finally in a MW game - now bring on hatchets, & punches

just my 5 cents worth (we dont have 2 cents in our country anymore)

my guess is that the tables will be mech specific not generalised so for a mech with no jump jets there would be other skills replacing the jump jet ones ie no quicker to elite than mech with jump jets

The jump jet related upgrades on tier 4 would be removed for any ’Mech that doesn’t have jump jets.

Yeah, the blog just says that tier 4 jump jet upgrades will be removed, not sure if that means tier 4 will be removed completely, or replaced with something else. If so, what? Of course, as the devs have stated, this is just preliminary info, and subject to change.

Hmm, how can a Nascar driver burn circles while the average driver can't?

How can trained radar operators detect airplanes more quickly, and under worse situations? In addition, you have to install that MODULE (equipment) to get that skill...

Oh no, airstrikes, it's not like they have those in Battletech is it? :o Or even in Afghanistan...

They're giving the game away for free, youi'll be able to try it before you pay for DLC that isn't free, man up.

why can one nascar driver win more than another given that the regulations keep both cars crazy similar? because one guys is actually a better driver. this is a live action game, so actually being better counts. this system gives one driver a better car just because he's been in the circuit longer. thats not how it should be.

trained radar operators know what to pick up on, just like an experienced mech scout will actually know what types of heat signitures to look for etc....the trained radar operator does not get more information appearing on his screen!

air strikes...learn to play. not everything that can happen in real life makes for good gameplay. and how does air strikes being possible translate to calling them into a game in a ridiculously quick time frame for the logistics of an air strike.

free does not help anything for me, i want fun gameplay and will happily pay for it.

It would appear that the Assault/Defense tree is mostly oriented towards Assault. From my point of view, there are only 2 defensive abilities out of 9 (AMS and Cognizance) and they are indeed so far down the tree that playing Assault or Defense would be the same for quite a long time.

To me, this is what it's currently looking like (it's 7:30 am so I may be off on it):

It just looks like there isn't enough defense in the attack/defense tree right now. It also looks like there is one too many off-map attacks in the commander tree though if these are just one-time or really long CD abilities, then it would be justified. I do like the idea of putting damage in the commander tree so that they can do something even if no one listens to them in pub games.

Nope, its because you aren't thinking of the skills in the correct light.

If a mech is wailing on your ally, as a defensive orriented mech, you can charge them and kncok them off of your ally, giving your ally time to escape and also forcing the enemy to focus on you instead. In addition, each vision mode can be extremely useful for a defensive styled mech, allowing you to spot danger before it can ambush your group and take out key mechs.

Just one thing. Don't call them Predator drones. One too many COD terms used already in the Command tree.

Other than that, it looks like a solid system. Can't say much until we see the huge full tree and determine whether the balancing is good or not. I don't think you could do it any other way, though.

Do you wants a thumbs upitty?

Oh, and as Paul just said:

1 and 3 I can understand for some abilities (certainly better than killstreaks), but please clarify delayed reaction timers.

Im wondering ? since this appears to be a lvling up game (if you played longer your better at everything) what happens when you and your friends have maxed everything out and ? Now you can only play with others who have done the same , or it will be too EZ (boring) and no one will want a newbie on their team.

Dont get me wrong I understand that all the games have gone this way with rewarding you for playing, its just like Modern Warfare 3 ,Ive already shelfed it,
Again dont get me wrong I love the complexity of the different roles and stuff. And I may be all wrong about the rewarding for time spent playing, I just want the reward to be the complexity of the Mechwarrior Universe, Teams learning tacticts, Trying to win the Different worlds for my Faction/Employer
I really dont want to spend a lot of time being wasted by the 13 year old who does nothing all day but lvl up so hes magically better than me when I finally get a chance to play. Will I spend a lot of time just trying to lvl up and lose site of the larger Mechwarrior universe ?

No distractions here Sorry.

This seems to rule out the mechlab, as well as usable salvage.

Assault - DFA damage reduction (grins wolfishly) This goes on my Wolverine so his legs stay on.

Seriously though, as much as these are 'outlines' of what we can come to expect - I am sure that balance testing will alter what is seen in the end product. Very excited, thankyou.

To those who are concerned about grinders out-classing them. There is no stat for ingenuity, experience, and a cool head.

Weapon convergence speed! Might we finally be able to use canon battlemech targeting systems?

I think this looks great.

For those who are upset with the probable "no Meclab", I would like to point out that according to canon that was very expensive, and not always successful, the new configuration would unbalance the design to the point of the mech being unpilotable.

Personaly I think that the meclab option should be available in the "Real money" store, unless you have the connections with the House Militaries to get access to their tech.

I know that this is probably going to upset some people and everything that will follow, but just wanted to get my personal feelings on the mater said for the record.

Paul, et al. that are making this awesome awesome game:

Ignore the whiners. I'd put money on them still playing, even if they say it isn't 'THEIR' BT/MW. Sure, there are lots of things that might be fun to include... but you guys are doing a great job. Stuff like this blog post is what keeps us chomping at the bit for more - then again, the fact that you don't tell us -more- is likely what's going to get you all alpha-strike'd once we find you in game, but... *shrugs* Comes with the territory :o

--
Side question: With the snazzy inclusion of DFA mechanics... does this mean we can hope for some Highlander love? Specifically, Highlander Burial love?
