Why did I not find this before?

I could not believe it when I first saw this, a mechwarrior MMO is something that I've only ever dreamed of...
I plan on throwing my money at this game as soon as I possibly can.
Anyways, it seems that the community here is rather active and bustling with activity! How come this game is not more well known? It took me a fair good amount of looking to find it and it wasn't even what I was expecting.. I was expecting to play Age of Armor (though for some reason it seems that they are shutting down) MWO looks great and this greatly exceeds my expectations!
Aaah I need payday! This game must be played.... Here's hoping I can get the legendary pack.

With that said, the publicity of the game is one that is necessarily low key, but that isn't always a bad thing. Many of the diehard battletech fans are already here and many other aquaintances to the franchise will be trickling in the very same way you have. So here's to us! - those who support the game, its community, and are probably planning to be dug in for the long haul:)

I'm ashamed to say that my battletech knowledge is not as great as I'd like... I only ever played a few of the mechwarrior games and even so I was very young. I'll have to look into getting my hands on them again.
Thanks for the kind welcome! I do plan to be here for the long haul this is just something that I cannot turn up.

heyha BMRX welcome at MWO and don't worry about your knowledge. Not everyone is a geek with the background and so on. Several battletech fans are only addicted to the game because the atmosphere and stuff feels good or because of other reasons. As long as the game is enjoyable for you it's all you need.

Btw, it's not MMO. It's PvP. But I hope you enjoy it all the same.

So you're saying its not a game where a large amount of people play online and kill each other?
But yes I plan on going legendary if I can, it all depends on how badly I want to pay for things like food and running water... We'll see.

Yes that is what he is saying. Right now the game is only 8v8 and it's planned to have up to 12v12. Which is far from "MMO" numbers.

The community is indeed very friendly here as opposed to many other online gaming forums.
You seem like, and I hope you are, a person who are willing and able to listen to others when they give you some advice.
I have some friendly advice I would like to offer you and hope you will listen to it.
If you buy a founders pack, you will also get access to the current CLOSED BETA.
If you consider buying a founders pack, I recommend you take the time to read some of the Information on the packs and make an informed decision, and not just buy blindly to get into beta.
This is a REAL beta and not a preview of how the game will be when released.
DO NOT expect the game to be feature complete, bug free and expect performance issues.
Many have blindly bought the founders pack only for the beta access thinking they will see a "pre-release Demo" and not an actual beta, and get so disappointed they come to the forums and rage over how this game is buggy and whatnot and make blatant uninformed statements about how the game will fail.
All feedback is welcome, both positive and negative, and you will get far better responses if you are constructive with your feedback, and not post threads that just boils down to "This game sux", or you will get the community telling you "Its Beta".
Before you post feedback, take the time to read the stickies(Pinned) and other information around the forums, as in all likelihood the things you want to bring up has been explained already.
Hope you will take this advice in the spirit it is offered, and that you find it helpful.

Personally, and this is just personal opinion... From the "MMO's" that I've enjoyed playing those numbers that you just dropped define an MMO. It might not be "Massively Multiplayer" but it's still my way of looking at it. Those amounts of people against each other is perfect for me. (If you have ever played blacklight retribution, you know what I mean)

Usually it's smart to listen to other members I find.

Yes I already understand this, and did take the time to fully read up on a lot of things before posting.

Yes I realize this as well, hence the term "Closed Beta"

I love giving and recieving feedback, critique, advice.
From what I gather about the community, this place is awesome. I don't think I'll ever leave. You guys have all been more than awesome for a first impression and I have yet to be trolled! This is quite amazing indeed. I look forward to my further endeavors with you all.

I figured it would not hurt to offer some advice and try to help at least.
I'm willing to bet that the reason you have not been trolled yet is because you have been smart enough to post in a way that makes people want to listen and discuss things in a civilized manner or to offer useful advice and help.
Hope you will enjoy your stay here.

Correct, it's currently 8v8 and from what I understand may eventually be 12v12. That's not a large number of people by my count. It's MO if anything. It's just not MMO. We are not all in the same persistent map as massive hoards. Some people choose not to make that distinction when tossing around the term MMO. I do.
*edit*
Upon closer inspection of the thread, someone already clarified this in the same terms. Regardless of how you perceive the numbers, I'm sure that if you are any sort of MechWarrior fan then you will enjoy this game.

That is understandable, so in fact it is not really considered a MMO as of yet. (And might possibly not be for some time) my opinion is that if you have more than a thousand registered members that in it's self could be considered "massive" sure you don't all play at once but I don't know of too many PvP type games where you are really playing with more than 15 - 30 players per game. The only actual example that I can come up with would be MAG for the PS3... Now that would be an MMO I guess.
But! We could end up getting into a very large discussion about this, and in the end I don't see the point. I understand where you're coming from on the matter and it does make sense, but I really do believe that it would only be declared an 'MO' as you stated if the amount of members that are currently invovled in the closed beta was more around the few hundreds not thousands...
Unless my numbers are completely mistaken, because I am of course ball-parking it and I'm only basing these numbers based on how many online users I see per day and the amount of registered users on the forums.

Edit: The sole exception, to my knowledge, is of course EVE Online. In EVE you really can have thousands of people, not only all in the same system but all in soght of each other and shooting at each other; EVE had to introduce a special system called 'Time Dilation' in the end, to combat the incredible lag caused by the load of such battles and that's on their hardware, which defines 'bleeding edge' for server hosting.

I had forgotten about EVE, which reminds me about Dust 514... So many games I need to play.
