Ok. im a hardcore melee fan..in almost any fighting games i play such as : Halo,Section 8 Prejudice, etc..etc.. i almost always need a knife or someother in a load out..so.. im asking..about how many mechs will have melee capeability? Will there be any new ones? Will 'mechs that appear to have hands be able to melee? Will any previously non melee mechs be able to melee?

The FAQ is your friend...

Q. Will MechWarrior® Online™ have Mech melee combat?

A. At this point in time we are not looking at melee combat. We may revisit melee combat if we can design something that is fun and does not compromise the overall gameplay experience.

correct me if its been changed since, but the devs have previously stated that they would like to include physical attacks but only once they can do them justice. And that they have no plans to include them at launch

In a world of giant robots fighting other giant robots with giant guns, something about a giant robot using an axe just strikes me as weirdly comical.

There are still two valid forms of melee. Get your mech up as fast as possible and ram someone, or use jump jets to land on them. sort of a lose-lose scenario either way :D

You might find things like the AC/20, or Flamer to be closer to your interests however :D

There will be no melee at first, but there is the likelihood of melee combat in the future. The problem will be to balance melee with ranges combat as ranged combat is the norm in the BT universe. To stay true to the lore of the game, we don't want 12v12's don't become boxing matches. Melee should be included but not as the primary form of combat. Check out sarna.net for info on brawler mechs.

All mechs can perform physical attacks in the canon (punches, kicks and charging into someone).
A number of mechs carry actual melee weapons to facilitate these types of attacks, mechs like:

Axman
Hatchetman

Look at the above post.

I saw it, it still looks incredibly silly to me :D
I'm aware it exists, it's just, as an outsider to the series, it both looks and seems highly strange.
I mean, you don't see tanks with knife-arms.

Ramming should be used sparingly, unless you just like getting physical. Ramming damages your own ride, and in a long drawn out battle.. you're going to want that armor you sheered off when the rounds are raining down on you. :D

If Charging" is considered a Melee attack, your golden. I would advise with leading with your Head though. :D

Not in those games, but you can do it in the boardgame.
It also gets mentioned a ton of times in the books (pilots tend to get crushed to death). Just read about what happened to Hanse Davion's old flame:

I've never "wife'd" my weapon before (though I was breifly engaged to a Gauss rifle in Vegas once...), however as previously stated the TT game and several of the novels mentioned depicted melee combat as a common thing, especially in close combat and urban warfare. It hasn't been done in the video games probably because proper implementation would be difficult without it feeling cheesy or out of place.
I am pretty sure in the older mechwarrior games you had the option to add hand and lower leg actuators, but I don't believe they had any effect on gameplay

Oh? Do tell. And if we did take a flamer, what would they look like exactly? What range would they have? Would they cause damage or just raise heat? Do they use ammo? Do you have any screenshots or video to back this up?Do you like movies about Galdiators Timmy? Do you have a Swiss Bank account? Do you like money?

a flamer has a range of ~90 meters the same as a machine gun.

the flamer is a giant flame thrower

what more do you need to know?
