I know that each Great House is usually a thinly veiled cultural/racial stereotype, but usually they include a few minorities in each nation. Kurita has the Arkab Legions (Space Arabs) and Rasalhaguans (Space Swedish), Marik has the Jewboys (Space Jews)- don't blame me, that's literally what they're called in the Vic Milan books; Steiner has the Skye separatists (Space Irish/Scottish), Davion has the Northwind Highlanders (paper-thin caricature of the Scottish) and United Hindu Collective (Space Hindus).
So I see that Liao has a big Russian population around Tikhonov. And since the CC is basically a communist/fascist ideal state anyway, who's up for Space Commies?

You can play/represent what you wish.

Well, Capellan Confederation is basically made up of three nations: China, Russia and Scotland.
Problem is that during 4th Succession Wars, the Tikonov and Northwind Highlanders got captured by Davions and we don't have almost any people of that nation in House Liao. All lorewise, of course (i.e real Russians are pretty common in CC).

That sounds badass. Probably a lot easier to understand than Chinese people? I think we should at least agree that we all do it together.

Honestly, if Battletech had a Space Soviets faction, I'd have joined that. Red & Grey paintjobs look epic.

I hate to tell you, but outside of Sian, Liao, and and Capella, the Confederation is Russian. Even without Tikonov, the majority of the CapCon has a Russian heritage. The only reason there is a "Chinese" culture is that the Liao family has spread its influence so far.

Actually BT does, though its in the Lyran Commonwealth (small planet there with an overtly socialist/communist backround). On of the Lyran regiments is associated with 'em.

There are actually planets of nearly any persuasion in pretty much every faction.
the "flavor" of each faction comes mostly from it's ruling house/class. People imitate those on the top of any social ladder, but when you really get down to the grass level, the innersphere is a more culturally diverse place than most people give it credit for.
So ya, you can, but i think you have to start putting pepper in your vodka, for Canon's sake.

I've always role-played/considered my Liao pilots as Soviet/Russian. Even after the change to a more (completely?) Chinese feel.

I've made an attemp to describe something like this lore-wise. Here's the thread.
