The impression I get isn't so much that we'll be confined to a single role, but we may have some limitations on what pilot capabilities we can field in any individual 'mech, due to limitations on outfitting modules. The way the devblog describes it, it sounds like ALL pilot abilities may be tied to modules. So a Scout could potentially learn Assault/Defender skills, but outfitting the modules for those skills might limit the number of Scout abilities they could bring to the fight.

Not sure if this is mentioned in other threads, but could each mech have certain slot designators for the modules. Like a light mech/scout mech would have 2-3 module slots for scout related modules and one general module slot for anything? That would make sense to me and would allow for great customization of the mech. Taking into consideration how certain mechs have better sensor arrays, targeting comps, etc.
