The question is, will MWO do the same?

For those out of the loop, the Oculus Rift is a VR headset that is set to deliver on the promise of actual virtual reality, which has been teased in certain products, but never really brought to life. The potential of this product is huge, and I'm very excited about it.

Now just earlier today, I recieved an e-mail from the Kickstarter telling me that Hawken, the "other" FtP mech shooter, will be Oculous enabled day and date of it's open beta in December. This is something I am also excited about, and I'd love to see MWO do the same.

So how about it?

It would be cool if they could support it. On a side note: Why would you put that subpar game Hawken in the title, and yes I mean sub par when it's set to support other shooters. That game reaks of twitch newb submarine with legness. Seriously no ammo, but balistic weapons, In game pick ups etc. Better off playing CoD or Tribes. I don't mean to come off as a troll but Hawken just makes me twinge.

YESSSSSS! Please, dear god make this happen, but only if the headset is so real that when I blow up someone's mech, their head explodes IRL. If that isn't an option for this headset, then I have no use for it.

Oculus rift looks cool, don't get me wrong. However, considering that probably only a small percentage of users would be using the rift I'm pretty sure the devs will have many, many other things higher on their priority list to work on.l

Well, it's the devs of the game making the code for the Oculus, not the people making the headset itself. Hawken is just attempting to get the most exposure it can, I think. Indie studio, fresh IP, you know. I mean, they have their own Steel Battalion-esque controller coming out for the game too.

I don't think there's any chance MWO will support the oculus until crytek decide to jump onboard, I really hope they do, theres some good cryengine 2 games

Just noticed hawken will also support gpu accelerated physx, it sounds pretty cool, they plan destructible environments, concrete cracking when a mech lands on it, if a mech walks through the trail of smoke a missile leaves behind it effects the smoke, etc etc

Oculus Rift gave a list of companies they are working with.

The CryEngine is one of them. I think things look good for us.

it looks like an awesome game and some of us need our twitch mech shooter games....and yes you do come off like a troll. t would be like saying this game is for newbz because it takes so long to kill someone and as we all know newbs like big health bars.

they both are great so lets leave it at that

a comparison, if this is the ArmA 2 of mech games and hawken is the Tribes, then the two cannot really be compared to each other as they are apples and oranges

Well... they're *talking* to those companies. That could mean literally "we e-mailed Gabe Newell and hope he'll call back" for all we know. But I sure hope it does end up getting a lot of support. This could be the closest we'll get to Lawnmower Man. You know, if Lawnmower Man was good. :(

A TV show, but yeah. Plus, it has the guy that played Darwin from X-Men First Class in the starring role. I was shocked to see that.

The Hawken IP is from an old Playstation game and when you look at the way this is being marketed, you may want to reconsider that 'small Indie studio' thing and look at where the money behind the game is coming from. 'Indie studio' has become a marketing concept since the consumer backlash against large developers makeing F2P and MMOs started to become a real market factor. Don't believe the hype.

I think I still have Lawnmower man on VHS.

The more research I do on the Rift the more hope I have. Otherwise I will have to build a VR pod and I have no idea where I would park it right now.

Yeh I myself thought the oculus was going to be a worthless piece of **** like every other vr that's been before, but after some research I'm really starting to get a bit excited about it, Possibly it could change the way we game big time
I'm in a bit of a dilemma on if I should get a dev kit though, it will be harder to persuade the boss to let me buy a retail version if I do, but then I'm going to miss out on a lot of fun if I don't :)

I'm not sure what Playstation game you're referring to, but I think you're mistaken. This is, to my knowledge, a wholly new property. Might you be talking about Phantom Crash, the old Xbox game? In which case, it does bear token resemblance, yes, but I still think this is a fresh take on the idea.

Also, I'm not sure what "hype" I'm supposed to be taken in by here - it is an indie studio, they only got a publishing deal after the internet stood up and took notice when it made a big splash at E3 and a couple other trade shows. That's sort of the beauty of it, isn't it?
