I'm hoping to see something more than simply destroying all enemy mechs or capturing a specific location for matches.

A few tweaks could produce some challenging and entertaining scenarios that would help keep the matches from getting repetitive.

Just my humble opinion.

Amen to that!

I'm really hoping for some depth beyond running around killing another 10 'mechs. Over and over again.

Variety is the spice of longevity! And I really want this game to keep being interesting!

It will likely be simple at first with a starting monolog or text message but it would seem easy to layer in more of a story.

A spin off of using hands would be capturing tech. One group protects and others have been hired to haul it off. That might mean that the raiders will need their Atlas with both hands functional even after winning the field.

Your character might be at a resort. The perimeter sensors show mercs, likely here to kidnap someone. As a pilot you have been asked to pilot a not quite 100% mech with the guard force and a few other guests. You have an advantage is sensors and a defensible position. The local garrison can get here in 50 minutes.

A simplistic one with a twist would be an open field battle, only this is a duel. Each commander will command from a safe place with a good view while you and the other mechs defend his...little...honor. A likely bonus if you can both win and make him look good as a comander.

Military schools would go for capture the flag and a few no win situations might be used to train new commanders.

The neat bit is both the game complexity and tactics can evolve. We just need to keep tossing out ideas that should be fun and not too overly complex to impliment as a patch.

Perhaps a pregame voting system on type of match and map?

I would go for fairly simple objectives that aren't too specific: Protecting Hanse Davion from kidnappers is a bit too specific for day to day pick up games.
I would imagine stuff like:
Kill all enemy mechs
Dropships (The two sides arrive by dropship and have to protect their dropship while destroying the enemy ship)
Raid (One team protects a generic facility while the other attacks it)
convoy (self explanatory)

MVP (minimum viable product) at launch will have vanilla missions. We must not judge the game on that alone.

The different mission types will need to be balanced so a bit of patience from the gamers will be needed. Eventually we'll see a wide variety of missions that both sides will enjoy. Just not at launch. Or I could be the most surprised pessimist ever born. What say you, devs? :)

Attackers are tasked with taking and holding 3 Comm dishes. The planet has many but you need only 3 held for 3-5 minutes to intercept a classified incoming transmission. (the attacker has a guy on the inside)

The defenders hear about your arrival but have no idea what you are up to. They cannot respond until some indicator of whereabouts is known. Running around willy nilly is not efficient nor practical. (it is a Big Planet after all)

Attackers best bet is to take all 3 Comm stations simultaneously, and then defend them for the required time frame. Once a capture happens, the Defender get exact enemy coordinates and can respond as they see fit.

Capping 3 at the same time will force them to split up their forces.

Good luck Commander(s) :)

Capture the flag (CTF)
King of the Hill
Steal the Bacon beacon
and of course attrition

I Hope there is a big map of the universe, some planets are attainable others off limits, the idea being there is more than just the mission but a bigger game in the back ground, All the fore mentioned games could be used in the final capture of the world.

is coffee ok ?
