Honestly, I'd rather a Firestarter over a Urbanmech. Sure, they've got a AC/10, but I like flames...

With the release of the mechlab information, the UrbanMech would be a great light mech because its one of the very very few lights that has access to a ballistics hardpoint.

AC20 FTW! (and keep the SL) ;)

Anything with a MG has a ballistic hardpoint too.

Undoubtedly if the Urbanmech is included in the game there will be a mercenary company that pilots nothing but Urbies that you will face at one point or another in your MWO career

The Urbie is to BT as the English Bulldog is to RL.

Short, fat, stupid looking, not really that useful, yet people love them.

The UrbanMech is designed for just what its name suggests, urban combat and defense. This is achieved by making the UrbanMech the slowest light BattleMech in existence with a top speed of only 32.4 km/h and a jumping distance of only sixty meters. On an open battlefield, speeds that slow would be a death warrant for any light 'Mech, but in the streets and alleys of an urban labyrinth, even with its slow speed, the UrbanMech is free to fight and fade back into the city as it sees fit.[2]

[edit] Armament

The UrbanMech packs a powerful punch for its size. The standard version carries an Imperator-B Autocannon/10 in its right arm and as a back up weapon it carries a Harmon Light Small Laser in the left arm. With these two weapons the UrbanMech can constantly harass, or if piloted by an experienced enough MechWarrior, down 'Mechs up to twice its own size

Lots of people love to modify this mech creating the Ubiee mech of death.

Its Cheap 1,471,925 c-bills

Its big, and bulky so you can paint nice things on it like "Abandon All Hope!"

Dome shaped cockpit allows 360 degree vision.

Notice the universal hard points on the arms letting you change out the weapons.

The mech also has hair I mean this is a cool mech.

Take off the right arm and ignore the rest.

It's looks probably serve to cause other pilots to underestimate its usefulness, or even mistake it for a trashcan and not even look twice... On the other hand, it may serve to cause other pilots to fall into an insatiable rage which only subsides after destroying it utterly! That is to say, that it could be so easily taken out!

Dome shaped cockpit allows 360 degree vision.

Moot point. All 'Mechs canonically have 360 vision. Doesn't mean we will see 360.

I want Urbies for other reasons.

All you have to do is disarm the one arm (max 15 points barring hardened armor) and you have a completely ineffectual unit.

The Urbie always reminds me of a D&D story, The Orcish Back Scratcher.

So our party gets blitzed by a bunch of orcs and our elf mage is captured. The elf mage has no spell components or memorized spells left, just a small dagger with minimal damage because of an incredibly low strength stat. The orcs aren't too worried about the mage because they have a damage resist higher than the mage's damage. Anyway, they tie the mage up and start readying their camp site. The mage cuts the ropes and viciously stabs the nearest orc in the back for no damage (on a crit...). The orc just kind of looks at the mage funny for a second then goes back to work. The mage is even more pissed off now and goes all flurry of blows on the orc and still manages to do precisely zilch for damage. Now the orcs get the idea that this is like some kind of elven spa and tie the mage up higher on a tree so that the elf can reach their whole back. They then proceed to spend the rest of the evening getting their backs scratched by the mage.

Kind of like the Urbie without its AC.

I'd call it maybe something like the Bieber of BattleTech. How about BieberTech? Completely useless, goofy, good at nothing but everyone loves it 'cuz it seems friendly. All it needs is a hairdo like it's head was dunked in a flushing toilet & it'll be perfect. Maybe ERRATIC CHEESE can do us up a picture?

They're essentially civilian mechs. Think of riot police in the 31st century. Sometimes you just need a mech to take down certain foes.

So when you see an Urbie on the battlefield, it's like the local militia.

I guess it has its place on the battlefield as a mech designed specifically for urban combat but, It looks like a trashcan with legs. The R2-D2 of mechs, the ugly duckling of the mechworld, the out of shape mech that just wants to find true love. In every forum there is at least one person dropping an Urbie bomb.

It just looks accident prone to me, like the mech you would use for the annual mech carnival's side show. Somebody explain their fascination with this mech and what makes the UrbanMech a prized and sought after possession.

Urbanmechs are walking oximorons, they are so ugly they're cute.

imagine a mech that you can buy with the c-bill equivalent of pocket change and has near infinite modification possibilities even able to hold a big bruiser weapon like an ac20 or a gauss rifle and still have room for a couple small lasers and its only a light mech so its a small target but it can take a pounding like a low end medium. how could one not at least have some semblance of admiration for the urbie.

The devs were talking about the quirks system, they coud add to the Urbie a 360° free torso-turn (to stay somewhat competitive), it has the right shape for it :(
