I completely agree with your input about the beta testing and how my questions can't be answered. But i'm not worried about my computer specs, I would be easily able to run it with my pc I have already checked. I was asking about the ping and whether it is possible to play like other F2P games with NA servers.

Thanks for your feedback though/

actually, on rereading this, it seems i went to reply to a similar topic, (in which questions about graphics and gameplay were also asked) and failed miserably. :)

On the bright side, a bit of higher ping isn't as deadly here compared to twitch games like the CoDs and BF3s and I think LoL to an extent. Your Mechs can take hits and the gameplay of this genre is more tactical so I think 150-ish to 200 is bearable.

I play MWLL & high pig can mess up hit detection, but there is server with regular 150ms & works fine

Thanks, so it's much like League of Legends in which we get a 170 ping when the Americans get a 10-50 ping.

Well that's a given since the servers are in Canada I believe, being a canadian company. Your best bet would be find a speed test website and connect to Ontario, Canada and check out your ping.

I've heard, on many occasions "I'm Australian so I'm used to terrible pings and latency, but this surprisingly good!"
TL;DR - better than expected for Aussies, but still not as good as for Yankees.

I guess the point is though, that while we set our expactations low and were surprised.. it could be so much better if we had tighter pings and throughput. Having a better experience for the locals (ie. people in the same country as the servers) can only be better for us over here in the other countries. A local server in Australia would be ideal but as long as the netcode and server responses stay tight and consistent, we should be good.

I contacted Ausgamers in Australia and asked them to get in contact with the MWO team in order to get some Oceanic servers. The replied that they were interested, so hopefully someone will be in contact with them soon. :(

Yeah I wish they were in Ontario. PGI is in Van. I had really bad lag issues last night & it's the first time it's happened to me. Suddenly this weekend I just couldn't play the game. My Sway looked like it tripped over its own feet once 'cuz it must've ran into someone that was nowhere to be found when it fell. Even my mech was jumping all over the place all the time & it was totally unplayable. I'd like to know WTF's going on. I tried to ping mwomercs.com in Windows & it times out, but I tried a couple European sites & I get an average somewhere around 300 ms. I've also been trying some Canadian & US sites with times over 1 second (some even over 2 seconds) & one Canadian site I tried gave me about the same times as the European ones. On speedtest.net I get no higher than 400-ish using the two servers from Van. The Telus one doesn't count since it's a wireless network & the speeds were consistent with that. Pings on speedtest.net were not much different from Kingston, ON or Toronto, ON (which I live in between) than they were from Van but the download speed was about 70% lower from Van on both servers.

I dont think its just you I and others have noticed allot of lag over this weekend. I'm not sure whats causeing it but several have noticed in our group.

There are several australians in DHB who play actively, there are some all australian groups also.
