Also the videos do not highlight XL engine mediums that can run at a surprisingly high speed for very effective hit and runs.

The heavies and assaults are as fast as modern tanks, about (40 to 70 kph or so), but can take far more punishment and mount many more weapons, handle difficult terrain better, etc. (Or, that is the premise, regardless of how reality would stack up.)
Assault Mechs should be slow, plodding, war machines capable of applying profound amounts of violence upon their foes.
And the Light mechs are tearing around at 110 to 140kph or so, in Tabletop at least, which this game is looking to emulate on some level.
So... I think you are thinking of a different game? This is not Hawken, or Armored Core, or Earth Siege. This is Battletech. Giant Stompy Fighting Robots. Not Turbo Robot Ninja Snipers.

Welcome to Battletech. They ARE tanks with legs.
And trust me. I can't say more due to the NDA, but speed definitely matters, even on these things- and so does cover.
