I was thinking about the old Zombie Apocalypse thread, a zombie really can't do very much to any 'mech.

Then I thought about how close "Urbie" and "Zombie" sound.

So, if you were on a planet that was being overrun by UrbanMechs piloted by zombies, which 'mech/battlearmor would you want to be in?

Some people said that they wanted a really fast 'mech so they could get to a dropship, so for this scenario let's assume that there are no dropships on planet, but several are arriving in 6 weeks.

Go!

Flashman. It's more than twice as fast as the Urbie, is heavily armed and armored, doesn't need any ammunition whatsoever (Granted, it does have an AMS, but that doesn't matter against Urbanmechs). If at all possible, I'd like to swap the flamer, AMS, and maaaybe a medium laser for some jump jets.
Admittedly, it has a pretty high heat curve. But, I'd prefer to do as little shooting as possible anyway. With 6 weeks until the dropships arrive, regular combat with little (if anything) in the name of supplies would be a bad idea no matter how heavy my armor is.

zombie is a slang word in the lore from solaris. its a mech with the ability to take extreme amounts of damage and continue operating.

I'll take Uziel Prime. Its fast and has jump jets, so I have cardio down. It has BAP so I can avoid Zombi Urbi ambushes, and duel PPCs for double tap.

I would take an Thor, custom Armament with dual ERPPCs, and three medium lasers, with an LRM 15. I would be able to fight off almost everybody, and if I couldn't, I could just run like hell.

Something with loads of lasers or PPCs.
Really, the Black Knight or the Panther, alternatively, Blackhawk and Nova Cat, if you're a clanner, are great choices, all being quite faster than the Urbie and potentially able to last thorough the apocalypse; if money isn't a problem, and you don't mind Clan technology, the Linebacker is probably the best choice, though.

I'd probably hideout in a urbie, in the middle of the horde. A hundred plus zombified urbies between me and other survivers, all the armor and weapons I need to protect me. Hopefully, they don't smell my non-zombie flesh and consider me one of them. When the six weeks are up and the dropships finally arrive, I'll make my way out of the horde towards a canyon where I have a Raven hidden in a large cave, which with its advances electronics will help me avoid making contact with anyone/thing before I get to the spaceport for dustoff. [Making my way to port with the Urbie would probably get me killed before I can tell anyone "Don't shoot!!"]

I actually think an Elemental would be a good choice, lots of options for where to hide, zombies probably couldn't hit that small of a target, and you could just hang onto the back of one of the ZombUrbies...

Anything with IFF jammers and a BAP, maybe a Jenner. Then I'd hide from the zombified Urbies somewhere, where their zombie pilots would be unapt to keep control of the 'Mech (like rough mountains or a dessert)... I wouldn't want to fight the zombies, but outsmart them by playing hide and seek. I guess running in circles wouldn't be wrong at all :D And never... really never I would want to play the hero

As soon as the dropships arrive I would be gone...

Hmm... having a cattle or bison or something available to bait the zombies out of the Urbies could work, too... shooting and trampling on the zombies would be rather easy then. In this case big feet would come in handy... and that's a job for something like the Stalker

Well with zombies piloting Urbies, I have to change Mechs to a Hermes. I want speed against hordes of Urbies, and since the Hermes has a top speed of 151.2 km/h I will be in the next time zone before the zUrbies knew I was there.

Are we proposing a "Zombie" skin for 'Mechs. When the armor is shot, it would give the appearance of flesh peeling away. Oh Solaris would never look the same after a battle.

A nice quote on an Urbie "Will fight for brains!".

Firestarter...

Urbie's store that AC-10 ammo somewhere. Let's just say, if you can overheat and set one off, the hoard will follow. Snap Crackle Pop.

If an UrbanMech is on fire, does it have double hp?

Urbanmech IIC, or even an Imp. That way all of the other Urbanmechs will not only not attack me, but they will adopt me as their leader and obey my commands. MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Why is this not stickied?
Anyways, I'd choose a Madcat MKII and hide in the water and only come out for food and repairs. And when the dropship comes.

I thought about a LAM but where you going to refuel for the flight engines?

I do believe that the LAMs still use the standard Fusion Engines for their flight mode as well. Though I could be wrong.

If they did not use fuel then that would be one of the biggest in-universe fluff errors in all of BT.
After all why does no one use the same technology in "conventional ASF" and safe the several tons worth of fuel you have to load onto them?

On topic:
I'd still go with my choice from the zombie thread.
Raven RVN-3L, but with a dual cockpit instead of the TAG, for all the same reasons.
The GECM keeps me hidden from the zombies, and at the same time I can stay at a distance due to my far faster mech and my better electronics.
Dual cockpit allows me to bring a friend with me who can pilot and keep watch while I'm sleeping and gives us enough space to store food and drinks in.
