Something that's always bugged me about MW4 was how the weapons looked when they were fired.
In MW3, the pulse lasers sound so cool, and look even cooler. Then we have MW4 pulse lasers, which IMO look like crap.
Same thing with ballistics, in MW4 it looks like they got lazy when making the ballistics animations.
Even hitting the enemy mechs in MW3 felt so much better than in 4.
Also, the MW4 PPC looked like a bunch of ribbons. I didn't like it at all.
Opinions?

MW3 styled pulse lasers should be used for Regular lasers since per fluff, lasers spend time burning through their targets.
So maybe like a 4 second burn time and a 4 second cool down ?
Pulse Lasers in MW4 were horrid. The BEST Pulse Lasers are in MWLL. Period.
Basically they took MW3 lasers and rapidly flash fire them. MWLL got that one right.
Damage per "hit" is low but overall higher than beam lasers. Cool down should be the same.
PPCs. I like MW3 PPCs, there is even recoil when firing them
Also the slower bolts mean leading is required, making it a slightly more skilled weapon than it's near instant hit MW4 variant.
For ACs.... My personal favourite is MW2 style ACs. But energy boats would cry when their mech dies in less than 3 seconds from an AC-20 boat.
MW3 AC's are alright with recoil and the knock down power. In fact I think MW3 ACs had the most amount of knock down ever. So that would be acceptable.
Gauss rifles in MW4 are decent enough. If MWO is following TT rules, the Gauss is a weapon that weigh 15 tons and 8 shots per ton, plus it can explode and it has a minimum range. So near instant hit is fine.

We got MW4 pulse lasers because some fans missed the MW2 pulse laser action style.
Blame those fans.
PS I love the MW3 PPCs (compared to the MW4 PPCs)

My major issue will be If the UACs look like RACs. I have seen too much bad art with UACs with what looks like a rotating multi-barrel configerations. Other than that I agree MW3 had some of the best weapon anamation.

I did enjoy the weapons in MW3... except for the pulse lasers. MW2 so far had the best animation for pulse lasers, imho. The AC in MW3 did make sense as per fluff you empty an entire clip per shot. It then takes time to load another clip. I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs come up with in terms of animations...

My personal feelings on ideal weapon look/feel:
"Normal beam" Lasers (including ER Lasers, Blasers, Heavy Lasers, etc.): emulate MW3 pulse lasers with regard to beam duration (minus the strobing effect) and damage-over-time capability, matching the novels' descriptions to the effect of "ruby lances/shafts"; muzzle velocity of 1.00c (speed of light, 3x10^8 m/s)
Pulse Lasers (including ER Pulse Lasers, X-Pulse Lasers, etc.): emulate MW4 pulse lasers with each pulse modeled as a separate projectile, which actually match the novels' descriptions to the effect of "streams of emerald darts"; muzzle velocity of 1.00c (speed of light, 3x10^8 m/s)
PPCs: emulate the Quake Wars lightning gun, which actually match the novels' descriptions to the effect of "cerulean arcs/bolts of man-made lightning"; muzzle velocity of ~0.001c (0.1% of the speed of light, 3x10^5 m/s - about the same speed as a natural lightning bolt)

Flamer: emulate a normal, real-life flamethrower; muzzle velocity of ~100 m/s

Gauss Rifle: appear as a silvery blur with maybe a short (no more than projectile-length) and very faint silvery contrail and a faint shockwave at the muzzle; please no brightly-colored full-path contrails as seen in MW4 or MWLL and no mass of flame like the US Navy's prototype railgun (where a lot of that material is vaporized material from the eponymous rails themselves; Gauss Rifles are coilguns, not railguns!); muzzle velocity of ~3400 m/s
ACs: appear as a burst of plain/dark shells with tracer rounds interspersed (one tracer for every three normal shells) with each salvo; muzzle velocities of ~1500 m/s (AC-2), ~1200m/s (AC-5), ~900m/s (AC-10), and ~600m/s (AC-20)
MGs: appear as a stream of plain/dark bullets with tracer rounds interspersed (one tracer for every six normal shells); muzzle velocity of ~2700 m/s
LRMs: ripple-fires a number of missiles equal to the rating of the launcher (5 for LRM-5, 10 for LRM-10, 15 for LRM-15, 20 for LRM-20) with each salvo; missile flight speed of ~800 m/s
SRMs: ripple-fires a number of missiles equal to the rating of the launcher (2 for SRM-2, 4 for SRM-4, 6 for SRM-6) with each salvo; missile flight speed of ~400 m/s
Narc Missile Beacons: fires a single small missile per salvo that strikes a target and sticks, with no blinking effect to draw attention to itself; missile flight speed of ~400 m/s
Arrow IV Missiles: Fires a single large missile per salvo; missile flight speed of ~250 m/s

i know i will like how some guns turn out and others i wont
nothing i can do to change that
but there is one i desperately hope they do not copy
the MW4 pulse laser
oh my god was that weapon pure laziness
the only reason it had multiple "shards" is because someone put some transparent bits in the texture
other than that it was identical to the regular lasers, if the first shard hit the target suffered the full pulse laser damage
no matter how the shooter was knocked off target or in any other situation where subsequent shards should of missed
thinking about it the machine guns were identical
please please please PGI make each projectile separate
mech2 and mech3 both manged to do it, but mech4 was made with absolutely zero fraks given
every single shot from a MG in mw2 made glorious blue sparks ping off the enemy mech
who cares if they do no damage, they were so awesome!
i dont care if ppc's and gauss rifles are sparkly rainbows or lasers are sticky beams
please just make rapid fire weapons shoot rapid amounts of projectiles
nothing i can do to change that
but there is one i desperately hope they do not copy

Yes, I hated how the MW4 pulse looked. Repeating textures, sloppy, blocky.
