I've always had an interest in Comstar, and I'm wondering if they are going to have any part in MWO other than messenger boys, and story filler.

They had the best Star League era material, and it would be cool to see some aspect of that playable.

TPTB have not yet released any details in regards to Comstar, whether they are in the game and what their roles might be.

As for Clan Wolf (Perfecto) you will be waiting for a little bit until after release before you start seeing the Clans.

Another one of those details the devs are keeping in their back pocket. Of course there would not be much to do for Com Guards up until the battle at Tukayyid.

But it will be interesting to see how things turn out for us players in that battle also.

278th Division "Clear Courtesy" IV-N: If I had to pick a Com Guards unit, that would be the one. I always loved the notion of a military formation operating with such a moniker.

Militarily Comstar does not have a role until after the clan invasion. As far as I am aware, the IS doesnt even know Comstar has a military until Tukkayid. So I doubt we will see them for a few years down the road if we keep to the timeline.

They the neutral group keeping them off the Houses' zone which in keeping with timeline the Houses considering as just information/communication jocks with HyperPulse Communication which not worth their time before Clan invade.

Oh I know. I'm lone-wolfing it until then.

There are still a few old Comguard units kicking around.

....Paul thinks, he is Mr. Precentor, with that massive HPG array and we all lost our rolls of aluminum for his dish !!

We're still waiting for video confirmation on that though. B)

This is not true. During Melissa and Hanses wedding elements of House Kurita (Akira Brahe) discovers a huge huge huge cache of mechs on Terra deep under ground. Also, he saw Comstar "acolytes" wearing cooling vests under their robes and so probably trained as mechwarriors. He shared this information with both his father (Yorinaga Kurita) as well as Morgan Kell I believe.

Yea, they suspect Comstar has a military, but with it being so long in secret they really can't be sure of it's strength or organization so it may as well be unknown. I'd say most intelligent IS leaders assume the worst, as to think otherwise is to invite disaster from Comstar. That and the reliance on HPG networks is probably what stops them from kicking Comstar to the curb (besides the use of black boxes.)

I'd say that if they're going to add Comstar as a non NPC faction it'd be after Tukayyid, I'm still a bit iffy on that because...what planets do they hold besides Terra and a few surrounding? Faction warfare with them would be...odd.

I agree... though the Combine and the Commonwealth both know about the ComGuards, nobody can estimate ComStar's military strength accurately. Furthermore, they basically hold only their HPG stations plus Terra / the Sol system. It doesn't make much sense to me to introduce ComStar as a player faction. Even if ComStar would hold more property, say a dozen or so systems, short after Tukayyid we're going to have the shism, and some players would want WoB to be introduced as well. Don't know if that is something the devs would want to do.

I'd say that if they're going to add Comstar as a non NPC faction it'd be during the Jihad, I'm still a bit iffy on that because....well...they'd own the Great Houses hard....except Davion....Chuck Norris will protect us from those Blakists.

Faction warfare with ComStar would be....

COMSTAR: COMMUNICATIONS SHUTDOWN (LULZ DARK AGES ARRIVES SEVERAL YEARS EARLIER ) I ROUNDHOUSE ALL GREAT HOUSES WIT MAH LOSTECH/STAR LEAGUE TECH LOLZLOLZLOLZLOLZ

Fixed. ;)

Truth be told it would be funny to see that unfold in game though. Hehehe. Lots of people would go....

Honestly though, comstar = dev team. It really won't work any other way logically speaking.

Thanks for the feedback. The Comguards were active before the clans though. I can't remember the book, but didn't they paint up as Liao Death Commando Units and attack New Avalon in a raid? I'm a bit fuzzy around the edges these days, but I think I remember them being very active in covert raids that were in the interest of Comstar and maintaining the monopoly on HPG technology.

I'd like to see the Devs use them as their unit. That would be slick.

Yeah...you'd know, whenever a white painted 'Mech with that star on its shoulders showed up, someone was in trouble. Maybe they'll keep the Guards out of the game entirely and have ComStar play their voodoo-shmoodoo at the HPG's once a day or so :(

To organize Tukayyid, someone from the Staff has to act as Anastasius Focht... his actions are to important for the development of the Inner Sphere...
putting the rest of the team into ComGuard Mechs really seems to be a very good idea.
Every House/Republik needs to stay in contact with Comstar so this is the perfect position to controll simply everything and keep a perfect ingame-illusion.

Still looking foreward for Tukayyid like it`s ne next Soccer World Championship :(
