Pretty much all the MW leagues I participated in had something similar to this.

The problem is that they were no where near this scale.

The leagues/ladders had anywhere from 10 to 20 units, and most of the updates came from the unit leads themselves submitting scores, 'Mechs lost, 'Mechs killed etc. at the end of the match(es).

MWO will (hopefully) have dozens if not hundreds of different units, even if all the unit leads do decide to manually upload mission information, what kinds of checks and balances will be in place to ensure that the information is accurate on the forums? What checks will there be to prevent people from creating BS units and inputting false information?

Without knowing how PGI will implement combat scenarios (will 1 unit challenge the planet owner? Will a House contract a merc corp to challenge another House? Will a merc unit just decide to attack a planet without notice?) we really don't know how the updates can be made, or even if they can be.

Wouldn't using FRAPS while in an Instance cause added Lag? Perhaps the Dev will allow a Save at the mission end that could be Frap'd after or directly Youtube'd after the addition of some proper Commentary.

"Well Bill, that }{avoc guy went down like a sack of potatoes didn't he!"
"Yes Jim. Never even saw that Awesome coming up from behind. Nice explosion though!"

;) :P

While we're at it, why not have spectator modes and live commentary in Solaris or league matches?
Anyway, that kind of thing doesn't even have to be provided by PGI or a hired third party, at all, players could easily organize ourselves in internet radio channels - I'm talking NGNG here - or even voice channels.

This would really make the game world come alive.

Using the above suggestions from Orzorn, I believe impossibilty is the lens the lazy see through. If it doesn't come from PGI directly, an effort will be made to implement this using the above methods by the fans.

The above suggestion states that he wants Piranha to do these DAYLY vids. And that is very much impossible. Nowhere did it stated that it was suposed to be the fans, so i suggest you take your smugness and throw it in a trashcan.

And even if it was the "fanbase":

Neither WoT nor EVE have dayly video updates despite those games being mostly playerdriven (more so in EVE then in WoT) and for a good reason: To much data. The ammount of battles fought every day would be mind blowing and who says that changes in control happen in real time?

Perhaps the conquest map will be updated just once a week? And how does the "fanbase" keep track of who fought whom and who got a deceicive victory? After all battles are in themselves closed instances with no way of onlookers to take a peak. The person or persons would have to participate in all the battles the "big names" (aka big guilds) partake in to get the info needed.

So how would such a fanproject churn out DAILY videos of what happened? We are talking about a full time job here.. someone has to sit on the PC 24/7 just to take notes who won and who lost.

The crew of NGNG makes one quality podcast every week and the reason is not only because we get game infos every wednesday. Its because people have lives... wich they wouldnt have anymore if they where to churn out daily videos about a video game... wich they dont even get paid for.

Also theres the question of content in those vids. What are you gonna tell the people? Its not like we will have some "breaking news" or exciting developments.. all thats gonna happen in the end is houses loosing or gaining control over worlds. Thats not really something that warants a video every day since everyone can see it on the system map anyways.

And thats why i said its impossible... a fanboys wet dream far far from being realistic.

Nobody ever suggested this would be realistic, grumpy-pants.
There's a topic, it's open, and we're posting on it; if something comes out of before it's locked, no matter how dismal that is - like some things and people are, by nature - all the discussion will have served a purpose, if not, you can say all of that again.

As I've said, a live voice channel or a simple internet radio station would be more than sufficient for some things, and those things are more than doable.
Yes, I said it's possible.

Sue me or something.

No matter how many times I read the thread or its title I just keep trying to envision a mech, like an urban mech or something, with a cannon on its head that it can turn around.

Like an urbanmech with a turning cannon on its head.

Sorry for the interjection, you guys can get back to arguing over nothing.
