I'm far more worried for the non-hero Centurion with the large engine and endo getting added when endo does. That thing would be massively overpowered compared to all other mediums, including other Centurions.

Well, that'll be available with C-bills, and probably more expensive in both them and MC. But progress marches on. I wonder how expensive ES/FF/DHS retrofits will be, and how they'll represent them. DHS I'd probably sell as DHS-bearing engines and DHS-bearing XLs, that'd make them a big chunk. Not sure about the others.

Fair fight and it comes down to how the fight actually went down.

YLW would always win though... due to the pilot. There's also some kind of super natural stuff going on with the pilot (Kai Allard Laio right?)... only 2 (maybe 3?) pilots in the history of battletech have the supernatural stuff going on (be it an evolutionary step also).

It will be amusing to see how many people think they're the spiritual heir of Kai Allard-Liao...

People miss the fact that the mech uses all the standard gear everyone else has access to. The only good thing that YLW has access to in this game is the AC20 in the arm. Which isn't all that awesome... and not OP at all. Nothing a hunchback can't do... and what about the Hollander?

People are going to be in a world of tears when they realize that the "hero" mech isn't "special" it was *always* the pilot.

Nothing the Centurion-AH can't do either.

Depending on how you look at it, it's a strange, gimpy HBK-4G or a CN9-AH that makes bad tradeoffs.

The yen lo wang is faster and should have more armor than the AH. Further it will have laser hardpoints instead of missiles. This makes it quite distinct from the AH.

Both Mechs have their advantages and disadvantages Hunchy has a torso mounted AC20 more armor to protect the weapon a + limited arc of fire a - more armor a + no room for an XL engine a - no Missile hardpoint a -

Centurion has arm mounted AC 20 Less armor on the arm to protect the weapon a - wide arc of fire a + less overall armor a - add Streak 2 launchers a+ overall more possible damage..

Overall the Hunchy will be a tougher shell to crack... but the Centurion has the extra damage potential based on it's weapons loadout to crack that egg.. on the other side.. the Hunchy already has the firepower to crack open the Centurion.
It will all come down to the pilots and their respective skill.
As for what mech is superior... it's based on skill and combat conditions.. IMHO certain situations the Hunchy will prove superior.. whereas in a different situation where cover is structure based and considerable... it will be based on who can get off the shot first.. with the greater arc of fire of the Centurion in that situation the Centurion holds the advantage.

I voted Hunchback, because I went from Trial mechs to piloting a swayback and doubled my average damage immediately. Gotta love capping Atlas and Gauss cats!

Currently I lean more towards the Hunchie. The smaller profile and heavier armor suit my brawling purposes better. Of course, the Centurion looks better, in a sense.

Having this discussion in the irc channel.
Both the Hunchback and the Centurion are in MWO;
I am also assuming the possibility of Yen-Lo-Wang variant as it was described in the description of the new Centurion.

So if you had to take to battle (maybe against the other), which mech would you take?

Both mech share similarities as follows
-50 tons
-4/6/0 speed
-1 AC20 and 2 medium lasers (although the TT has 1 ML on the YLW facing rear)

Differences are
-AC20 on YLW is in the right arm, Hunchback in the right torso
-Hunchback has 3 more heatsinks and a small laser
-YLW has a hatchet or claw on left hand
-Hunchback has 160 pts of armor over the YLW 136 pts of armor

in tt yen lo wang. in mechwarrior due to the boosted armor, and the ability to crit out the ac20 in 2-3 hits the hunch back wins.

Taken from Sarna:

Quote

The Yen-Lo-Wang was originally armed with an Autocannon/20 in place of the Centurion's Autocannon/10, two Medium Lasers and either a Hatchet or a Claw.
Later on, Hanse Davion had Kai Allard-Liao's 'Mech upgraded with a Gauss Rifle in place of the Autocannon/20, three Medium Pulse Lasers and TSM. Presumably sometimes in the 32nd century, the ancient 'Mech was refitted with a Heavy Large Laser, an LRM-20 with Artemis IV, a Hatchet, and a Shield, which was piloted by Danai Liao-Centrella.

If I had to take a guess, if YLW is the hero mech, I would figure the variant used by Kai Allard-Liao is the most likely of the three, since hatchets, shields, and heavy lasers aren't available. (the laser is advanced clan tech anyway) Also, the idea of being able to equip a mech with triple strength myomer interests me.

Since the topic is what I would pilot, I end up getting shot and the extra armor of the Hunchie is what I would need.

Right now? Hunchie. Centruions may have their cannon in the arm but it's awkward and inaccurate. Plus the arm on the Centurion seems to be made out of paper mache and it's profile is huge. We'll talk again in a few patches.

Yen-Lo-Wang because the Centurion is one of my favorite mechs in TT and he has an arm mounted AC/20.
You have a wider firing arc and you can put in a 260 XL Engine giving you a topspeed of 85kph.
Great to hunt those slow assaultmechs and LRM boats.

While I prefer the Hunchie, the YLW, in the hands of a superior pilot, might fare pretty well.

I'd pick Centurion over Hunchback.... even without the hatchet.

YLW, they are going to be fighting at knife fighting ranges so the claw and shield of the YLW give it that small edge it needs.

Not really, ever heard of never bring a knife to a gun fight? Plus melee isn't in this game, and probably never will be.

They both have advantages/disadvantages.

YLW has a "smaller" AC/20 profile, judging from the Cent arm vs. Hunchie side torso. YLW also can use an XL engine with an AC/20, something the Hunchback can not do. YLW can also zombie better than the HBK, due to the 2 chest mounted energy hardpoints. Once a Hunchie gets its side torso taken out, he's down his Ballistics + an Energy hardpoint.

Hunchie, however, has a smaller overall hitbox, and can potentially mount more weapons (1 extra energy hardpoint over the YLW). They both have "chest mounted" ACs (due to the missing Actuators on the YLW to fit the AC/20). Hunchback can also lose its right arm without losing its AC/20, whereas the Cent can get the AC/20 taken out via losing its Arm or Side Torso.

And you can buy a Hunchie with C-bills, so that's pretty big. Overall, I think they're roughly equal, and the YLW isn't going to be overpowered or anything. Unless it has something stupid like an engine speed or armor HP multiplier, but I highly doubt PGI would do something like that.
