A commando is a balanced mech as good as 35 ton mech with only 20 tons

I like the Commando. Always have. Was my favorite light mech, other than the Jenner, in Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Maybe it is just that it was the first Battlemech I had ever piloted. Maybe it was that I actually went to Tukayyid (SP?) and WON with it a few years down the road, after a lot of practice. Heck, maybe it was the SRM 6 that was bolted into its chest that gave it that fun punch that the early Streak Missiles just didn't have because their guidance package was crap.

The Commando is a classic. And despite its dated construction at the time, lack of heavy weaponry, and overheating problems that plagued it when firing those three medium lasers, (once I dropped the JumpJets and downgraded to an SRM, and added the remaining max weight in armor. Totally my fault, I always forgot to put the heat sinks in that I needed.) all at once directly into the leg of a pesky Panther or Dragon, it holds a special place in my heart for being a resilient, fast, and reliable Scout Battlemech. I have missed it since then, as it has not appeared in any factory ready version of Mechwarrior past MW2:M, and any time it HAS appeared, it just wasn't the same, or felt like every OTHER scout Battlemech that populated the battlefield at the time.

I am VERY much looking forward to piloting this new rendition of the Commando the way it was MEANT to be piloted, even if it is nothing close to the original COM-2 that I fell in love with over a decade ago. The fact that it is returning makes me very nostalgic and quite excited to see what other Battlemechs I missed to much that will appear in Mechwarrior: Online.

LOL~!

Atlas will kill this little guy by stepping on it...

Well, battle limitation should avoid it...

great design, as usual from fd. but i think its legs are a bit far off from each other.(most new design's are, am i missing something?) Although i dont understand why people love this mech so much. Its inferior to jenner in every way. Slower, worse armament, no jumpjets, only advantage would be its cheaper.

Hypothesis: The legs are widely set to make it easier to distinguish when a 'mech is going to move perpendicular to you, as well as to facilitate having a wider body to (generally, though this seems to be a broken with the Jenner) that when said 'mech is squared up to the target to fire, it is *not* simultaneously presenting its best defensive silhouette as well.

nice mech, but why does it look like it just hopped of a catapults back?
I know, a solid standing is quite useful, but this looks a bit like a cowboy dressed up as a commando on halloween.^^

but seriously: a real nice design and just because it does not look like the ones we already know, it's not bad.

My suspicion, and hope, is that she could not actually relay the target information while her mech was powered down (which was why they didn't see her in the first place).

Never thought I'd say it, but I'd sure like to pilot this one...I used to skip right over it when reading 3025. I didn't like a couple of the renderings here, but this one is an awesome revamp.

Speaking of which, I'm fine with Mech capabilities being all but fully limited when shutdown, but I hope that, since we're limited to 1st person, powering down a Mech does not mean you're forced into some off-kilter slump which screws with your ability to simply look out the cockpit and survey your surroundings for possible times when you've been made.

IMO, if you're powered up and you tell the shutdown to occur, it should take about 2 seconds to powerdown with the last message of "All systems offline." During this powerdown process, you can be targeted because you are emitting an IFF beacon. After this, your heat signature begins to cool off and your electro-magnetic signature is completely gone. You're causing no seismic pulses by moving and if someone sent a UAV overhead, depending on your local, they may be hard pressed to see you as a Mech. You cannot be targeted at this time (though someone can dumb fire on you and hit you).

From the moment you tell the system to power on, there would be about 3-4 seconds before you can move, but from the instant you request powerup, you can be targeted again, your thermal signature begins to heat up, and you instantly pop back up on electro-magnetic scans.

Just my $0.02.

Awesome story, awesome artwork. Completely thrilled with this one! In my TT experience the Commando with its loadout of missles can usually punch well above its weight and while its armor is decent for a 25 tonner, its nothing to write home about. Still, all in all, most Commando pilots should be able to hold thier own with most mechs of about the same to slightly above their weight class. Of course, as the unfortunate lady in the story has found out, none of that matters when you've run face to face into a ticked off Centurion.....

Anyone who thinks they could do a better job on the art, get back to me when you have a contract for the newest mech game and have done cover art for some of the reference books. Then I wont assume you are a troll.

Always enjoyed rolling in a commando... something about the 5 extra tons that makes all the light-foot scouts shiver...

Just to point out the counter... you don't have to be of "equal skill and exeprience" to have an opinion on something subjective.

Oh hey, neat. A new design that I do like very mucho. It actually looks like the source material. Still prefer hips to be slimmer, but its neat.

Now time to read the rest of the thread. Sometime...
