In my lack of sleep brain... I had this thought, its crazy so this is the perfect place to share.

What if.. We are wrongfully assuming that PGI is telling the truth about the head count of at launch Mechs, what if the field is really going to be broader than the twelve we've been "issued". Its like a placebo to keep us calm... and still intrigued.

They are showing us 12 artistic examples up to launch... but really, I am on the fence as to whether we are being sold into a surprise. I dunno.. like I said.. Just seems like 12 Mech types, with very limited variants, is way to small a group to launch with, with the expectations of 60000 rabid fans on the line.

This is ALL my insane sleep deprived brain, likely insanity, probably conspiratorial and moreover all wrong. But someone had to say it.. right?

I think we are sticking to the 12 'Mechs in this thread because it's the only number we know of. Furthermore, I'm agreeing with you... there will be more than 12 'Mechs available at launch. How many? 24 sounds quite reasonable. It's the number of 'Mechs included in the 4th edition box, and would be enough initial diversity.

Your idea isn't crazy at all... and your explanation for why the devs would release only one 'Mech a month until launch isn't either.

one thing to look foward too is all these people who dont choose to read the FAQ's and game info will be the ones to rush into getting the biggest baddest mech at the start because they think it will be an instant win that makes me really smile because there is a term for people like that and its called "Cannon Fodder"

Sick burn.

I think 12 would be enough. Coming from my point of view. The last time i played a Mechwarrior game was when we rented Mechwarrior 2 for the ps1. So my understanding of each Mech's strengths and weaknesses is far far less then an experience Mechwarrior player. So to the uninitiated like myself play testing 12 Mechs to see which suits my play style would be easier then 24 or however many. Then of course you have the variations of the 12 Mechs.

Actually I was planning to go for a medium weight mech first.

12s OK as long as there's tons of customizability. If it's limited 18 or 24 might be more interesting.

Raven (especially 4L). But any one of the following and I'll be happy.

Flea (especially 20)
Wolfhound (2X)
Stinger (6L)

Alternatively, they could break Canon or speed up time and we can have lots and lots of fun mechs (Uziel A, Shadowcat C, Fafnir B from LL).

If I had to guess, I'd take picks in weight classes we don't have yet filled in. A 40/45 ton medium, a 35/20 ton light, a 70/75 ton heavy and a 80/85 and 90/95 ton assault.

Best guesses would be:

RAVEN - The most infamous recon 'mech in a game with a heavy focus on recon 'mechs seems like a for sure thing, honestly.
ORION - Shot in the DARK here; heavy is the weight class with the most favorites and just about any 70/75 tonner would fit the bill.
AWESOME - Another iconic fan favorite that is undoubtedly one of the best & most popular 85 tonners
HIGHLANDER - To fill the role of a jumping 'mech in the Assault weight class

Notably I'd change my heavy vote to ANY unseen if they managed to licenese one. But given they got sued over the Warhammer in the teaser already, I have a feeling they may strongly consider staying as far away from unseens - at least Harmony Gold unseens - as possible.

Agreed. There's just something magical about using hit-and-run tactics in a light 'Mech to rip an Atlas's back to shreds. Especially when the game gives you more points for killing/damaging 'Mechs above your weight class

Mechs common to all of the Houses would be prudent. That one off MW4: Mercs Black Knight - we should never see that unless you waste the guy that owns the one example. That ONE guy.

The wolverine is a good choice for medium. around in all stages of game life and all houses/merc/pirate units.(and fits well with other units already shown)

With any luck they will be able to use flying derbises Unseen redesignes if so I'd bet strong money on the locust, shadow hawk, and warhammer.

Highlander is the only Jump capable assault on the list there which i think should be factored i think this brings it higher up on the list (its also my favorite mech) a Victor would make another good choice for jump capable assault mechs a marauder II if unseens make the scene would be pure gold

also without a massive history rewrite the unseen reisigns are put in cannon as "facelifts" given after 3060 to bring up sales of ageing desins and so could not be used on here till then theres still a chance that they will get harmony gold to let them use the real unseens though
