BTW, for those of you that may think because I call many things a name generally reserved for female dogs that I'm a sexist, I'm not. I am happily married to a wife that understands you can call something names and not truly mean it. Sometimes she even uses it more than I do.

I've got a favorite Archer chassis which is most definitely a boy, I think - however, most other Archers appear only as female, to me, due to their general shape as well as their general combat role; unlike most other configurations, mine isn't a long range fighter, but a specialized short-to-medium range brawler.
On the other hand, a Warhammer will always be a female, to me - they've got long and slender legs and arms for 'Mechs, like supermodels, and carry themselves with a somewhat feminine sort of motion.
Likewise, a Puma will also always be as a female - they're hardly as anthropomorphic as some of the other 'Mechs, so it can be hard to tell, but they're protective towards their pilots, much how an actual Puma is towards her children.
Catapults are females - they're calmer than the male 'Mechs, and their demeanor suits their combat role as fire support units very well.
Cougars are females, too - and you know why, don't you?
Just some examples.

I.e. "Yeah thats my car, she's a thing of beauty!"
I guess the above Atlas comment would be an exception

A mech is a he for a producer
A mech is a girl for a maintance crew
A mech is a tool for a leader
A mech is a combination all of them for a mech warrior

Calling a ship "She" goes back to the old languages (Latin,French Spanish,German, ect.ect) Where nouns take a gender, English still has some of these reverences but we speakers dont know why or where they came from.

My rule of thumb is this...
Vehicles in the water or vehicles in space = she
Vehicles with wheels or vehicles with legs = he
Aircraft can be either, for example...
A-10 Warthog = he
F-16 Falcon = she
737-700 = it
In my opinion.

What about the Nimitz class aircraft carrier? The battleship Bismark?
What about the British Matilda tank?
