::sigh:: This thread again?

No, they're not going to support a niche market product that currently doesn't exist.

"We're really excited about it but we want to get the hardware first," explains Wagner. "We've got designs and plans on how we would do it, like enabling people to look around inside the cockpit while still being able to move forward and control the mech. But it's super early to be talking about it right now."

Wagner also admits that it's hard for them to give specifics on how long it will take for them to implement the downloadable patch that would enable Rift support. "Right now we have a huge focus on hitting our December 12th release date so it's hard to say right now. We want to get the hardware and we want to make the experience as great as we can for our customers and make sure it fits within the game."

Yeah, not so much. Perhaps once it actually exists they will.

If it ever exists, of course.

So, we're done here, I think.

I'll stick to my monitors. Teamspeak on one side, real-time map run by a commander on the other.

Hawken is adding support to grab headlines nothing else. The Oculus isn't a retail product or close to a retail product. It's for people to work on solving the problems that exist with current VR tech. It's several years from being ready. Don't believe me, listen to John Carmack talk about it.

And they're even backtracking on that now (see the article I linked to from Sept 2 above).

Voted on 2nd option because you're hilariously arrogant. Couldn't care less if either MWO or Hawken gets OR support, i'll be playing them both anyways :) .

Even if it only takes 3 or 4 years for them to get the Oculus up and running, it will likely lead to the next version that will actually see a mass release. I really doubt any game that jumps on it now will actually be using it or even existing on its own by then.

Head tracking software already exists and I want that too. Supporting the head tracking from the oculus rift surely can't be more convulted than triangulating 3 LEDs.

It probably wouldn't be, if the oculus rift existed.

It doesn't. It's probably not going to for years, if at all. No one is currently supporting it because it doesn't exist; see above posts. Id has publicly said it's not there yet and won't be for a while after looking at the prototype, and Hawken is now backpedaling on it as well after using it as a PR splash.

Geek as I am, keen as I am of Oculus becoming normal for games, let's wait till it's on the market, you know, "build it and they will come". Oh and .. keen as I am to troll this in a smack down style, it's good form to attach your support and wishes to the other billion threads just like this, feeding your ego with bias polls just makes you look like a fool.

Yes after the game has been fully released, not until then.

Umm, the CryEngine already has support for VR devices if they conform to the practice that all motion data is sent to the game as mouse movement. Unless the OR people are complete idiots you will be able to map those controls as if they are a mouse and the VR effect is nothing more then a 3d output that can be generated by a simple dual-render from two points.

Also if they follow the standard distance from the right to left eye then the 3d will lack the depth that so many think is "Good 3d". This is due to the fact that the scale of the game is at mechs and a pilots eyes are a minor variation in position when compared to that.
