Figured I would show a little bit into Juri's psychy by giving the whole post focused on her perspective as halucinations begin to kick in. Might expand on this later
All I could do was picture this soundtrack to your trek through the market
Hey I have a soft spot for Hellsing OVA, with its 'let's go crazy' ebb and flow. Its one of those anime where I kinda began rooting for the villains. Maybe because the 'hero' Alucard was so overpowered and Integra so um, self righteous. So I would end up cheering 'come on Valentine Brothers!', 'Come on Dandy Man!', 'Come on Rip Van Winkle!'.... I even get teary-eyed when the evil Major goes on his crazy ranting war speeches. Favourite characters in the anime are Father Anderson and the Wild Geese mercenaries.
wow. MacabreDerek's post of anime mv got me thinking. Anime was an honest passion of mine. My first introduction into anime was Robotech/Macross (yes robotech ) My first memories of anime was the space marriage scene of Max and Mariya. Even today, I can appreciate the layers the creators of Robotech/Macross tried to convey in the show - the theme of war and peace, the complexity of love-relationship (love triangle of Rick/Lisa/Minmei), interracial relationship (Max & Mariya, Roy & Claudia), the clash of cultures (the zentraedi structured society meeting the human more liberal way of living), trying to understand and live in a new culture (the three zentraedi spies in SDF-1), the tenacity of community when faced with shared adversity (macross city thrown into space), the influence and power of music (minmei...yes minmei...). Young as I was, said hey, this maybe is an interesting form of story telling. Of course, there were giant robots flying and shooting at each other.
Later, top of my head, there was Doraemon, Record of Lodass War OVA, Gunbuster, Gundam (the UC timeline ), Nadia - the Secret of Blue Water, 3x3 eyes, Slam Dunk, Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X), The Vision of Escloflowne, Akira, Jinroh, Ghost in the Shell (movies and series), Now and Then, Here and There, and Oh who can forget Neon Genesis Evangelion. And everything that comes out of Studio Ghibli
The last few anime that really got me singing was Texhnolyze (oh just love the dark plot, pace and storytelling), Twelve Kingdoms (a beautiful telling combining fantasy and chinese mythology), Nodame Cantabile (just a well crafted romance comedy giving tribute to classical music) and Monster (Oh I cannot stop praising this one. A psychological thriller, which is unique in anime, examining brutally the characters involved, exploring the darker side of the human psyche. So many questions, often uncomfortable, Monster ask its audience. And I appreciate the japanese voice actors doing their work proud conveying the emotions needed for the script. Please, please, please, if you have the chance watch this anime. )
Sadly however, I kinda faded away from the anime scene the past few years. I noticed anime was kinda getting... paedophilic...stylistically, and I was getting uncomfortable. That and anime was getting 'too pretty' which is an odd thing to say because since when have anime not been pretty but more so these days and the themes/plots/stories seemed rehashed, insipid, formulated, lacking that spark that draws you to delve deeper. Kinda faded out. I dont know. Maybe i will go look at the anime scene again. I dont know. But I will say this, will always say this, anime is a beautiful form of story telling which at first layer appeals to the inner child in us and if done right - the right story, characters, character development, will make you think. *sigh* I just love anime.
Thanks again for the anime mv post that got me thinking typing this MacabreDerek.
Oh some mv then.
To Anna Liebert from Monster (Please please watch this anime. )
A very good AMV of GITS!
Ps - I forgot to give an anime shout-out to Samurai Champloo and Afro Samurai!!!
ps2 - Oh yeah since this is a science fiction forum, may want to have a look at Infinite Ryvius - (www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FSzy7hkRWI) I was kinda sad when it came out and was largely overlooked. A hidden gem. Interesting plot, emphasis on characters and character development. Highly recomended.
Okay. Enough of anime. Just luv it, back in the day. Still do. Laterz.

See I never really liked Animé. Pokémon and Dragonballz were about my farthest forays into the universe. I even had complaints about Gundam - as a child. Mainly for the reasons Azman lists out, everything is nearly exactly the same.
Too many animés can be summed up with 'The good children fight the evil old people'. Or 'everyone is utterly insignificant except for our heroes and villains, as they are only not OP because they keep running into each other due to author fiat'.
That last one often leading about midway through a series to 'Our two superpowered main characters, despite being hated adversaries have discovered an even greater evil/mean person than each other and must team up to destroy it/them for the duration of this arc but will immediately go back to hating each other and probably never mention this again'.
And other endless repeats of repeats...
Sure Western television and film is often not much better, but I don't get told at least once a week that it's utterly superior to every other storytelling media ever and so wonderfully magnificent and unique, etc etc.
I don't think I'd like animé even without the rabid fans, but that's probably just due to me not liking the cartoon style and not getting asian culture references, but (EDIT) the certain* fans make it so much worse...
Ok, so Oni was typing on my behalf, interesting. Was gonna finish this up, but will take a few minutes to digest what's going on. If either Oni or Sparks can Skype me in the next two hours I'd be grateful (MacabreDerek).

Speaking of Skype, I do think we should all add each other on it. Chatting to Mac has really solved a few campaign bugs
Mine is RogueSpear91, so add me too!

Wasn't trying to really type on your behalf, Rogue wanted this finished by Monday and I asked him to get a hold of you last night for a go ahead to set up the fight sequence, wasn't trying to step on toes or anything there Derek (hope you haven't taken it that way) just was trying to get you all into position to finish this up so we can be done on schedule We're already going to have to fast-time the Juri doctor scene I'm afraid and just say hey kids, look she's better and "we're on a boat, yo on a boat" If it upset you or rubbed you the wrong way, I am sorry and apologize. Was just trying to get you where you could do you kick-asss stuff self.

Oni, did that message that Alexi send out go out to Thom as well?
I was going to have Thom show up for the Party at the Grand Dragon but read the end of the message that she sent in out to all regular Terrors so figured I'd ask first. Left the post vague enough that I could have something else happen.
EDIT: *reads Oni's last post* Brillant! We just Shanghied some medics!! LMFAO!!
