We dont scout! We just blow them up! Who needs to know about something that no longer exists?

Atlas' are terrible for reconnaissance: They devalue their intelligent just as fast as they send it to HQ.

"Sir, new intel report coming in from 2nd Companies's recon lance!"

"...So?"

"Umm, sir, wouldn't you want me to...to relay it, sir?"

"...You're new here, aren't you corporal?"

my version of scouting is in a medium now i don't know if that is unheard of but scouting in a Atlas can't be all that bad. for one example
"Sire a scout lance has entered the area" Then the enemy sends off some light/heavy mechs not expecting the Steiner translation of scout lance

Lyrans have got the right idea with regards to tonnage restrictions.

Without maximum weight limits, you can just use traditional, heavy materials as opposed to weight-saving structures, saving you a lot of internal critical space which should be occupied by electronics and a higher end engine in a scout lance 'Mech - you can get a 45 or even 50-ton scout running at speeds competitive with those of lighter 'Mechs, but with superior combat and recon capabilities, in a chassis which is also much more compact and more difficult to detect visually.

Whether you can afford to deploy such battlemechs is another matter, of course.

I have read all of the post with more atlas, and 400 ton scout lances and have to laugh.

Many may joke about Atlas scout lances, and its true Steiner had the funds to do it. However the prestige of piloting such a mech was gained from skills proven. Unless inherited as a family mech a new mechwarrior would be assigned a mech to pilot. I can see many of us starting out with 40 tonners and working our way up to the Atlas.

After all for every one Social General, there must naturaly be at least 3 common pilots for him to lead into battle. (I don't think those comon soldiers are getting an atlas tho.. What mech do you think would be the norm for them then?)

I can only assume this Commando and Wolfhound Battle Armor that is apparently so popular in these parts.

Surprised no one has posted this yet:

I got called to a Trial of Grievance after this due to "flagrant display of stratvag coalescence" ;)

I lost, I deserved it, but it was totally worth it!

Always bring enough firepower to destroy anything you may find, be it an idling Urbanmech to a an exposed Dropship or even a small country.

We're not clanners, so theres no need to underbid.

That has to make any Clanners wary when they get responses to their batchalls from Steiner forces.

How many times would they fall for the "We have but two scout lances defending the objective" ploy?

****** hell Lyranys, seriously? Do you realize how expensive an Atlas is?

...Better question: Do you know what a Light mech is?

EDIT: Apparently Bl o ddy is censored but not hell...

1: Atlases are a drop in the bucket.
2: Light is a Zeus, right? Or a Hauptmann? Those are only 95 tons.
