That would be quite extreme... ultra low with no graphic effects activated would suffice.
Actually something along the lines of the graphics pages in WOW would work for low end graphics users. Immensely more customizable than MWO. That's just one example.

I would gladly sacrifice graphics for better gameplay. I have a really good computer that JUST MEETS the requirements, but still not good enough and lags.

Were min hardware requirements raised recently?
Im running a 460gtx 2nd edition, intel g850 2.9ghz , ddr3-1333 cross the board.
Since the shader effects were upgraded, my performance has gone down the toilet (especially on water maps).
Best dx9 effects Ive seen to be fair but why was the less complicated, more efficient water effect dropped?

I gather uninstalling/deleting/removing AFP is not an option?
MWO will not run well – but it will run.

A less drastic solution would be to stop the Adobe process before you start mechwarrior, or take it out of your startup in msconfig. If your laptop stays turned off when you're not using Adobe is probably updating.
As far as introducind a new graphics mode... No. This might not seem like a big request, but every graphic mode has to be balanced to play against all the others with no advantages or drawbacks. If you turn off a particle effect that blocks other players line of sight, the low end machine gets an advantage.

Thanks for the clarification.
I can see on the other hand, turning off shadows would put people at a disadvantage over people that could see shadows.

Are you guys sure that it is the graphics that need to be reduced? as I see it now, it is the CPU demands of this game that are the hindrance, I have a low-med graphics card (ATI 7750) and it is capable of great framerates until I turn my mech (legs not torso) which must be doing something to the CPU as framerates dive towards 10.
Have any of you tried monitoring the system loads (windowed mode with CPU/GPU monitoring software to one side of the screen) during play? I am really looking forward to them fixing the code so my 7750 can get a look in and provide me the pretty gameplay I can get in all other games
I can't help feeling that the latest Frostbite engine might have been a better choice as that already supports tank turret gameplay for the Battlefield games.
