Attn: Lt. Colonel Steven Grim
From: Regimental Command HQ – 10th Deneb Light Cavalry RCT – New Avalon – Crucis March
Capt. Sigmund J. Sandoval
HPG message…..encrypted.
Colonel Grim,
I hope that this correspondence finds you and your men well. I am uncertain if you remember me, but we served together on Marduk in our engagement against our most bitter enemies the Draconis Combine under the leadership of my cousin Field Marshall Duke James Sandoval. It was a distinct pleasure and honor to serve with you and hope that you hold me and my 10th Deneb Light Cavalry RCT in the same esteemed regard.
All pleasantries aside, I will simply get to the point of this letter. After serving the Cheetahs with distinction on Glenmora, Crossing and Marduk, I have come to the conclusion that I have done all I can here and have put in for a new posting.
My current posting on New Avalon, although pleasant, does not allow for any real action outside of drills and training skirmishes. Although I have done well here and very much like serving under Marshall Sanders, the blood that flows in my veins cannot withstand such temperate climes as it burns to return to the Draconis March where I can be of greater service to my people and my Prince.
I have had many opportunities to move to a training or liaison posting within the allied LAAF, but with all due respect to our esteemed commanders in the AFFS, my time as a potential scholar and diplomat have long since passed me. I have seen far too many friends die and have suffered too greatly at the hands of our enemies to be anything less than a soldier.
Therefore, I am taking a more direct and non-traditional route by writing to you directly for admission in your esteemed and storied Regiment. I would appreciate your consideration. My uncle has tacitly approved my decision and (as he is want to do), reminds me that my rank, position and posting are to be completely determined by my own merit and service as an officer of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. This is well and good since, though I cut a dashing figure in my dress uniform at parties, I am no Steiner sycophant that would use title and favoritism to advance in the military.
Best regards,
Sigmund “Ziggy” Sandoval
