The first time I test drove the very first 'splatcat', I nearly blew myself up. The name 'splatcat' was given by someone else entirely though, and while mine probably appeared first, I suspect quite a few players created it independently before it gained enough traction to become feared later on as a short range meta.

Whether or not the lasercat can be considered as an alpha meta depends on who you're asking though, since the lasers being mounted to 4 different components meant they always fired in pairs - the arm pair and torso pair - as opposed to a full alpha, even before ghost heat appeared.
