Seriously folks? Seriously?

A "Troll"? Is that what we always say these days when we have to deal with someone who makes us uncomfortable?

Srsly?

Even if he is, trolls are very important members of the community and should be shown the same respect as anyone else.

Good day to you sir.

It's instanced combat, how much of a headstart do you need when you are in a repetitive game model?

And that's assuming there is no wipe at the end of Closed BETA for current progress made.

We're not lobbing level 100 paladins around here, new players can figure out the controls just like anyone else.

They should have a open practice server thats free to everyone so new people can demo the game. Or practic ce the game. But it wouldnt be connected to a stats server. Because they dont have single player missions to play.

A troll is someone that argues without following any logical process, who assumes what other people are thinking and what their intentions are and it gives no opening to a CONSTRUCTIVE discussion, among the rest.

They add no value to a community or a discussion, if not for the occasional comic relief, hence why they are considered useless when not outright harmful.

By not showing respect, they do not deserve to be shown any.

But its all good, since the "Troll" is nothing more than a mask for bored people. What we dislike is the mask, not the person.

You do know that life and existence is beyond the confines of structure and the normality you speak of.

If you learn to tolerate whats outside the box; you will make the box a much nicer place to live :-)

I didn't see anything in the rules or code about calling you a TOTAL NEWB!

Edit: I remember reading the controls for MW4 on the car ride home practicing on an air keyboard.. I was about 8 y/o.. for rlz.

Edit: I went on to become one hella good cougar/mad cat/nova cat/daishi pilot!

I played Mechwarrior 2, Mechwarrior 3, and Mechwarrior 4.

Does this mean I have an unfair advantage?

Maybe the game is not going to be released, you have to upgrade the founders pack.
Oh well.. back to BF... :P oops the other game
Think I will spend mi money on the premium upgrade.

I see that you are new here. Please read the pinned threads, dev Q and As, the FAQs, and other valuable information. After all that reading then go back to posting comments, and you, and your threads just maybe taken seriously.

You will get hold of The controls of mech in 2 days max , and if u wanna try it , just play MW4 , and the beta stage happens to every MMO online outhere like world of tanks or world of warplanes or tribes ascended , starwars, ...etc .
And beta users wont have nothing that's really advantage except what they paid for a founder mech . anything else like premium time or MC can be bought by any user founder or not. And in world of tanks beta users( I m one of them) has only advantage of playing battles not put on record , that's it . You will have training fields were u can test your mech around , then it wall all lay down on your skills.

To be fair to the original poster, this exact same thought crossed my mind recently as well. Yes, I've played Mechwarrior 4 too, but those skills don't precisely translate to MWO (controls are very different, mech loadouts are different, game mechanics, etc.)

Yes, it's true that the profiles will be wiped when the game goes live, and that there are guides, etc., and everyone can benefit from that. However, just "reading" about baseball and knowing all its rules doesn't make you a good baseball player. You have to do it to actually build the skill (although knowing the rules certainly helps).

Since I'm a founder, I'm not telling you all anything you don't already know - I'm in the closed beta. And while I can't disclose any specific details, I can say that I now know how the mechs handle, tactics that work, the maps, and best loadouts for my play style, and this took me several weeks of playing to learn. I'm not saying someobody new won't be able to learn this, but those of us who have been playing the game in the beta will have had more practice and therefore tend to be more skilled than those just learning the game.

It's a fair point - like I said, I've been mulling over the same concern myself.

Because, as we all know, ONLY the founders are in the BETA. There are absolutely NO non-founders in the BETA. None whatsoever. At all. Period. End of discussion.

Sigh.

I fail to see any legitimate point in your post. Anyone testing the game cannot do so without also gaining a lot of experience with the system (actual real-world experience, not in-game EXP). What do you suggest, that they ban the founders from playing so that the people who just signed up will have an even playing field?

Ignorant thread, no legitimate points.

Ugh - like I said in my previous post, it is a fair point. That doesn't mean there's anything that can be done about it. I mean, all of us in the beta aren't going to undergo mind wipes. But it is a fair point that we're gaining real-world, applicable experience that others aren't. It's just the nature of the beast. I guess it can be chalked up to a benefit of participating in the beta.

But your tone is unproductive - there's no need to call peoples' ideas "ignorant". Grow up.

BlackArab,

First - hang in there. I did not sign up for founders until today, a week and a half after getting said beta invite. Does that make me any less of a player than those that have been in the beta since the beginning?

Believe in the developers and the community, they are a great group of guys. They are more than willing to teach and instruct.

Not gonna spend more time on this as I think you are slightly disillusioned by your lack of invite. The MW community has suffered through years of not being able to play our game. We are going nowhere, and teaching and bringing new folks into the fold only makes us stronger.

It's called sarcasm, and it is regularly used to highlight something, either said or done, that the speaker finds absurd or silly.

The 'fair point' is a non-issue. As you've said, there's nothing that can be done, and frankly nothing should be done even if it could be. I doubt very much that anyone is going to say "Gee, all of those people who were BETA testers are so much better than I am", especially given that when the game launches there will be so many new players that those of us who gained some experience with the game will be but a drop in the bucket.

As for telling me to grow up, well golly, doesn't that make you sound all grown up and mature.

There is every reason to call a post ignorant when it neither offers anything constructive nor addresses any valid points. It's no different than linking a dozen pics of lolcats as far as the game is concerned.

BlackArab - understand your concerns, but you have nothing to worry about. I think your concerns has 2 parts.

1) one is that players are part of a BETA where they become more experienced.
2) because they are founders and have access to founder mechs, they have an unfair advantage

Concern #1 -
Well every MMO needs beta testers, so you can argue that for every MMO that has ever hit the market. In the big picture, thousands of new players will flood the game, and most likely the veterans will be a minority in most games except where they are grouped together.

Concern #2 -
The data will be wiped, the only advantage here is for Legendary and Elite Founders they might start off with their favorite mech. So maybe at the beginning for the first week or so, only the founders will be driving Atlases or their favorite Hunchie. Won't take long for others to catch-up.

When i consider another game like WoT - the playing field very very quickly balances. There's a huge huge variety of players, beta or new ones, so i don't think we can draw conclusions just yet.

Good luck!

In before the lock!

Really, you can simply pay $30 and you too can be one of us "Advance players"! :P Simple as that.

Seriously, we are getting maybe 33% of the game to play/test right now, so really, I wouldn't loose much sleep on the matter.

This has got to be the first closed BETA I've been in, where people don't seem to understand the concept of closed BETA...

Everything will be wiped, we will all start over again with Open BETA. Same as with every other BETA. With most other BETA you'll also see a wipe with (pre-)release, but with this being a F2P game, there isn't much reason to do so.
