And this is why I hope seeing other people's mech's names is optional

Me too!
Honestly, I think naming your mech is sily, and I just don't wanna see 5 "Yen Lo Wang" Centurions in the same game (for example)
It's not like people's IFFs would broadcast the name of their mech for example. A mech is a tool, it's used to kill other mechs, it's like naming a tablesaw.

It's not unusual for a soldier to have named their gun, I'd imagine a mechwarrior would get attached to their mech seeing as they may have to spend days in it at a time depending on what they're doing.

If it ever makes it into the game it will probably be simple and safe - no text, a few decals and dev team created/approved paint jobs.

Or a bit more freedom and a report button, that'd be much more fun.

Well now I wouldn't go that far. People often give their cars nicknames. Sometimes names just evolve. We call our tractors by names partly just to tell them apart easily and partly because my son named them when he was little.
Now you take a vehicle that seems to have it's own personality, and is the only thing between you and the people trying to kill you, and I think most people will come up with a name.
I'm just a big RP ***** and so don't want to see stupid names. Silly is one thing, no accounting for taste but names that are basically just there for trolling purposes.....

You are in for a shock then.

I hope seeing the names will be optional, yes. I've been around long enough to know that some people have a very low sense of humour. And even more people are just out to offend as much as they can get away with.
