Give the Devs a break, Perhaps?

I haven't been posting very much on this forum recently; I feel we are retreading over a lot of old ground with many of the subjects. Which is fine, a lot of the folks here now weren't five months ago (or whatever) when we reduced many of the topics to rubble. but it does mean i have very little new to say, and very little interest in seeing the same opinions.
However.
Recently, especially with the release of the <sweet> trailer, I feel we have let our geek demons shout down our better angels. These guys, the devs, work hard. well, most of them. Paul. they have produced soemthing awesome and brilliant and they are obviously as full of love for the project as we fanboys/girls are.
which is amazing, really, when you think about it.
So.
Is the fact that the computer say 'online' instead of 'nominal' that much of an issue? are the apparently too big gun bores really that much of a concern (i mean, really?)? The fact they have -gasp- hands such a deal breaker? Or that the drop ship seems to big on the inside, and now comes with lower bay doors really that much of a problem? or that an LRM20 only has 10 release tubes something to honestly loose sleep over?
And that is just the recent stuff.
You know, I want this game to be as perfect as everyone else here. I am looking forward to this whole thing so much, my girlfriend has started emitting this little sigh when ever I start talking about it. I'm trying to convince my 16 year old nephew that Mechwarrior is great, but he's sixteen with a stupid hair cut so it's hard to explain to him that battletech really is better than 40k and they were making good computer games before GW and that, at least deserves some respect. I may as well be hitting my head off a wall.
"what's Mechwarrior?" he says. Sigh.
All I am saying is, whilst the detail matter (and you know what? I want the computer to say nominal too...) I just feel we have to take stock of what is really important. Like game play. Seeing the HUD matters. Seeing the graphical fidelity matters, game play concepts like the (potentially) brilliant dual reticules matter.
In the long term, what a computer announces really doesn't.
So am I out of place asking us all to go easy on the devs on some of the less...game breaking...issues, and lets concentrate on the elements that really make a difference to the game.
You may proceed to shoot me down....NOW!

I initially thought they may have done it on purpose, just for the trailer, as all the long time fans would definitely take note! I for one was definitely, "All Systems... W T *??!"
It could have been to underline the name of the new Mechwarrior game:
Reactor....... Online
Sensors........ Online
Weapons........ Online
All Systems........ Online
Mechwarrior........ Online

It's just that, like you said, we've already picked everything a part over and over, so many times we've nothing left to go over. Everything that we know so far has been debated to death. Now we have nothing but the insignificant stuff to chew on, whilst we wait for some real meat. Which we probably will get next week.
The flood gates will open again. And some new thought provoking topics will come up as well as more stuff about the nit picky stuff. I imagine the devs take all in good humour, and know that however hard they try, they'll never really capture the feeling of mechwarrior right for everyone.
[And yes it should be nominal damnit! ]

Anyway, on a more serious note I concur all what you have said we might have stepped a bit over the top but that is mostly because we love PGI, yes even you Paul Inyereye, and we want them to produce the best product for the Battletech universe. ((And let's face it most of the MW fans tend to be a bit of fanatical towards those type of issues))

Hasseling the devs is one thing but providing suggestions is quite another. This game is going to be F2P. That being said, they actually get alot of market free research from all of our constant questions and the endless list of what ifs. Its even been said that if there is enough demand things will be added and changed after launch (dont ask me to provide a quote on that...I saw it a long time ago). What ever keeps the micro transactions flowing

We give tough love, because we care. We, as the hardcore fans, know what we like, and love what we know. Now's the perfect time to raise suggestions and constructive criticism, because the game is still putty, it's still malleable to the whims of Matt, Bryan, Paul and all the others. We cast a critical eye on what is produced not because we're ungrateful but because we, too, want the best for the game. Sometimes our emotions get the best of us and we don't always show the appreciation - but get the game right, and we will devote the single most precious commodity we have - our time - to ensure its everlasting success. That and money. Lots of money.

Discussing things is not "shouting down our better angels". If anything it's apraising them. Everyone of us wants any game you like, a well done and polished game. Therefore, if there is anything you don't like, or notice otherwise, you bring it up for discussion. There is nothing wrong with that.

You are making way too big a deal out of this, than it really was.

It has been discussed, and the devs confirmed that it was a hasty oversight. There was nothing wrong with bringing that up.

That wasn't even a big issue.

If someone thought hands on an Atlas were a deal breaker, than that person obviously was not familiar with BattleTech before.
Mchawkeye, on 02 March 2012 - 01:12 AM, said:
As already discussed, drop doors make more sense anyway and canon wise it was never specifically said, that Leopard DropShips wouldn't have these. I am looking forward for what they have come up with on Ovoid DropShips.
Mchawkeye, on 02 March 2012 - 01:12 AM, said:
It was brought up, it was explained by the devs (and the fans alike, since one LRM launcher on the Atlas shoots 2 consecutive missiles in one Salvo anyway), everyone was happy. Where do you see the harm?
Mchawkeye, on 02 March 2012 - 01:12 AM, said:
Then acknowledge it and discuss it with us .
Mchawkeye, on 02 March 2012 - 01:12 AM, said:
As you said, we want a "perfect", polished game. Little details matter as well. Naturally, the devs decide what is important and thus gets priority. It's not for us to decide.
Mchawkeye, on 02 March 2012 - 01:12 AM, said:
But it does. Imagine if the devs thought "those silly BattleTech fans. I don't care what the computer says". Wouldn't you want a game like MechWarrior: Online to be developed by someone, who cares about BattleTech, MechWarrior, its fans and it's long nostalgic history? And evidently, they care deeply about it.
This is more a matter of principle, of course.
And, haven't the devs already said, how they love us for discussing all these things, even the little ones? Would you really want to turn your back on them?

-the dedication that they themselves (as confessed Battletech fans) share with us
-the large and vocal community that waits for the release of further tidbits of game info with what can only be described as rabid anticipation
-the size and general temperament of the mob that will come after them if they eff it all up!

Well the Chainsword is one of the iconic items of the WH40K universe and usually equipped by Space Marines, and Imperial Commissars, but I don't think I get the reference but I do remember the critic saying how awesome the wh40k universe is because of that and the cynical brit also talking about it during his W T F IS Space Marine

They probably do because they want to know what we think. (logical, since it is going to be F2P, and they probably would prefer if at least one player actually spent a dollar, or two)
And I believe they weight in what we think and want, to what they think and want, and know can be done.
It is not like we are an angry mob outside their house.
Though I guess there is a risk of that happening...

Indeed, the active participation of the Devs and the number of Mods and Community Managers on these forums is, for me at least (i.e. compared to other games I cared about in the past), almost unusually high.

I maybe be speaking only for myself but the way I see it, most of the "criticizers" are only doing it in jest. I "criticise" it but I never actually meant it and from what I've read, that seems to be the general mood. And I think PGI got that message. It'll be very unfortunate if they thought we were being serious. Perhaps some are but I don't see it.
Besides, PGI have been receiving alot of praises over the months. Just the fact that they are the only one who dare to bring back a "niche" product such as a Mech simulator puts them on a lot of people's good books. And the relationship between the forumers and PGI stffs seems very friendly and supportive. Its quite amazing, at how some of the PGI staffs interact with us through the forums postings. And there seems to be alot of that in the recent days.
In fact, it now almost reaches to...."fanboi" levels, tbh. One can't be negative or critical with PGI without having a reinforced BattleMech Company jumping on him DFA style in this forums. Not that I'm complaining, I think I'm quite firmly in the ardent PGI supporter camp

Yes, it gets tiring and boring but I've played many MMOs over the years, as most of you did I'm sure and the only time when I see a peaceful and filled with polite extremely welcoming forumers...is when that MMO is dead or almost dying. There's nothing to talk about because no one cares anymore and people are only friendly because they are desperate for you to stay and help keep the game alive.
Its sad but thats the way it is, from what I've seen.

As it stands now, this "teaser" has me as excited as the announcement for MWO had me four months ago. I can't say I don't care about the little nit-picky issues, but I'll gladly look them over. Come on, guys, we're getting a new MechWarrior game. 10 missile tubes for an LRM 20 is a heck of a lot better than lasers firing out of ballistic ports, or (heaven forbid) missile tubes. The Hunchback already proves that the variants will have different appearances, as MWLL is already doing. These guys are bringing back the greatest sci-fi series in my eyes, so as long as they don't go MechAssault on us, I'll be content with what they do.

Leave the computer voice at "All systems Online" and after the release, put in the game store:
[ Computer's systems check now says "Nominal" ] ---- 0.79€
With 2 or 3 more little perks like that, the game would auto-finance in less than 2 weeks...

I like the trailer. I hope that just on realism sense that massive dropship was an Overlord class, no way a union or leopard has that much space inside, those things are crammed to the gills with stuff. And i hope not every assault is an air drop seeing as in fluff those are rare and incredibly risky both on gear damage and surprise factor.
Good job so far devs, now add an Annihilator. Thats the difference between good and great

That said, it's hard to give quarter to someone when they (the devs) are running away from your Mech screaming into their comms like school girls.
