Okay so we have been told the following:

When coming up with the core game features for MechWarrior® Online, we create and focused on four pillars of design and player experience. These pillars include:
  • Mech Warfare – The embodiment of Mech to Mech combat.
  • Role Warfare – The ability for player’s to customize their experience to suit their own style of gameplay.
  • Community Warfare – The ability to let the players take part in epic combat for territorial control.
  • Information Warfare – Bring a new element to the battlefield that incorporates information technology to help control the fight.
I know its 8 month out from the 'planned' release date.. but this does seem a little vague.

What exactly does each of these things entail?

Mech warfare - hmmmm well its called mechwarrior so I kind of assumed we would be fighting with mechs! Does this mean PvP arena fights? instant battles ala WoT? campaign style PvE?

Role warfare - I think this one presumably character progression of some kind ... with 4 classes. But what exactly will be the in game effects of these classes? will they predetermine which mechs we will be able to control?

Community warfare - Some kind of persistant campaign for sure but will it be purely pvp on a company level or will there be PvE missions thrown in.

Info warfare - This I assume will apply to the general gameplay of the game. Allowing people to better use ECM and beagle probes, narc beacons etc.

All assumptions but I would love some clarification on these points.

What do you lot think?

i think the dev's will release the answers for all your questions once they themselves have them properly fleshed out

What I personally think it's going to be is coloassial mech combat ranging across the entire Inner Sphere and possibly beyond. When they say things like Community/Info warfare, it just makes me think of Chromehounds, how all the units under one nation would war eachother over a persistent world.

Info warfare just makes me think of Ravens, with their full ECM packages royally shi-tting on your day when trying to acquire a lock with your Artemis package.

Really, it can be any number of things, but those are the things I picture when thinking about it.

Undoubtedly. In the meantime, the rumor mill will churn and speculation will fly!

Agreed ... I made the thread more to get my questions and curiosity on their radar more than to get an instant answer .... which devs would be nice if your watching :)

Greetings!

What ever it may be, it'll be something new to the Battletech franchise and for us fans of the series.
I don't moan about F2P, in fact, I welcome it and I don't mind DLC I pay for.
Pay to win would be a very bad and nasty thing though and a shortcut to the demise of this game.
As a matter of fact, the Mechwarrior series was never a biggy in terms of online play and selling.
So F2P is the ONLY way to get this gem STARTED.
If ppl have to pay to play this, they'll never get the player base they need to get this thing going.

As for the content and more important the gameplay, as OP already stated, it'll be all speculation.

But one can dream - yes!
Rekon it'll be complex but not complicated.
I'd like to see some sort of game world with ongoing wars, battles and skirmishes?(sp)
As Bryan stated one day in RL will be a day in the Innersphere - sounds very exciting!
I think there will be some news for you to check onces all goes online. We fight/play develop our avatars
playing abilities.
As I understand we will get some in game credits, "earn" them as Mercs or house troops or freelance mechjockeys. And even better, we can buy stuff? with real money. I like that.
I hope infact we are ably to buy as new Mechs :) I know this can be a "can of worms" - us you say,
but I doubt it.

Why?
Simple thing.
Don't forget the information flow on the battle field. With restriction to sophisticated radars (LOS), probes,
target painting and designation, we're back to fairly realistc warfare.
Teamwork will be key!
If it terns out like it sounds, a lone Atlas will be a sitting dug - and a fat one be sure! You'll hardly miss.
Lights and Mediums will be our eyes&ears. Our lances commander, right behind you will conduct this Mech orchestra! You play your violin alongside others.
Lone wolfing will be restricted for patient, experienced warriors, like my humble myself :D or it'll be back to the mud!

Hopefully, we will see some kind of avatar, we play with; RPG elements will bring this to the next step.

Ah! I hardly can wait!

S!

Based on what I've read so far, it doesn't sound as if there will be any PvE in the game. It will all be PvP.

At worst I'm expecting a PVP only game for a while before they give us a PVE option.

What to expect? Pretty much MW4 but better graphics I hope.

Yes, play is free; And hopefully player vs player, not any silly bots!
'Comon, this is Mechwarrior not a silly MMO against lame AI.

Mechwarrior ever was fun against (hopefully) smart human opponents.

And what about Liao? Im pretty new recruit for them, so I try to get as much intel as possible, but from what I saw, we should be 1on1 lone wolf, light weight specialists. Where does the thing about teamplay and spotting go?

Honestly, I'm not a huge PvP guy, in any game, never have been, and I most assuredly loved the SP games over playing anything on-line. I would love to be able to play on-line with my friends, complete missions where I didn't know whether it was going to be PvE or PvP... that would be alright. If the AI is good enough for the bots, then it will be more of a pleasure to fight them than to take on other real-pilots. Logically, they can't not have PvE, because it's a real ****** to get people together in the first place to fight in battles 4 v 4 or larger, and if people want to play in off-times, or off in another part of the Inner Sphere no one else is playing in, and if the devs are actually going to go off the Inner Sphere map, which means the potential for 2,021 worlds, then PvE forces are going to have to be in place. Right?

I think I can warm up to the idea of these roles, not classes, and I think they'll help add a dynamic to the game I was not expecting.

Again, my hand goes up pretty high for PvE campaign play.

No, it was implied in the article that it will be actual intel, such as battlefield environment and weather conditions, enemy SALUTE packages, perhaps even old Star League Caches, repair points, safe zones, landing zones, outposts, and repair caches. I would love to see the full intel spread, for certain.
