When's the next time a Dev's going to be on NGNG or the like? Any chance we can try to get this answered on there? Even if it's just an acknowledgement that we need them?

Not to disparage the game (I've quite enjoyed it when I've gotten involved in a large-scale operation), but PS2 does have other issues to be fixed and certainly isn't ready for release.

But at least they had the right idea in getting an Aussie server up during beta testing. I'd still want to hear something from the devs about the possibility of an Oceanic server for MWO.

How about one in Singapore? It's a good midway point between Europe and Australia and all...

Even though I'm from SG, I kinda disagree on this. Check the demographics of your players. If most of them are in Aus, then place the servers there. Ping from here to Aus has always been bad in the past. Geographic position sometimes don't mean much when the routing sucks.

Afaik, don't quote me on this, but bandwidth & server costs are also substantially higher over here in SG.

It's not just demographics they need to consider but also average investment per head of population. Aussie have a really good dollar at the moment and heaps of disposable income. We're like a whole country of whales they should be pandering us and offering complementary bottles of champagne on arrival :)

But you must remember that locating a server in say, Perth (already the best choice for an Australian server location) only serves players up to about Malaysia with <110 ping. Chinese, Korean and Japanese players will have 270 ping as usual. Ping to Melbourne/Sydney would be 170-205ms, but that kind of choice would be weird since there isn't much to the east of Australia except New Zealand.

If they locate one in Singapore/Malaysia, that's sub 60 ping for the SEA region, sub 110 ping for Australia and sub 130 ping for Eastern China/Japan/Korea.

The best choice would be to locate one in Perth and another in Japan or Hong Kong, but that would entail TWO server locations.

Also, Singapore's Internet rates are substantially cheaper than those in the nearby region. So if we're talking a single-server setup for East Asia, Singapore would actually be one of the best choices.

The geographical location of Singapore is not only good for shipping and flight, it's just plain good in general - and the reason why in spite of having next to nothing else but location, the country is way more advanced than its surrounding countries.

While we're on this topic, Germany is a good choice for a European server location based on geographical placement.

Oi, hey fellas just lettin ya know Planetside 2 is out on nov 20, and their devs have australian servers already running.
If your in the same boat as me bored of this and taking a break until they stop choofing around and release cw, you might wanna check that out.. i'm getting 40ms on a 2000 player world =D.

Getting 260ms on here but the netcode makes it play like it's 500+ zzz. Fark that :)

Anyways giving some heads up, gg

Planetside is made by sony and is FINISHED when MWO is finished i'm sure it will be more appealing *rolls eyes at the dense people*

Ok I understand that because of the cable network perth would be the main choice, but the ping rates you have are a little inaccurate. I get a constant ping from Sydney to Perth at 1700 AEST of 75ms which beats the 260ms I get to the US.

Any from Perth able to give a ping test from Perth to Singapore?

New Zealand, Dedicated server over this way would definetly help. When you avg lag is over 200 hard to defend yourself against the lights.

Some great posts appearing here.

Routing is an evil beast, and there's never going to be a perfect international solution.
I like what Sony has done with Planetside, though they have considerably greater capital behind them than Piranha.

Should the MWO Launcher permit (or heaven forbid, there be cooperation with) Smoothping, it might be possible to allay a small percent of the latency.

You misunderstand me. The 170-205ms ping is a Singapore to Sydney-Melbourne ping. Ping from Singapore to Perth is 75-89ms. ;-)

Yeah, I was worried about this too.
Also, Xenois, we are all Mercs or Lone Wolves because we are Australians and no one tells us what to do!
We play in Merc companies with our mates or go Lone Wolf and we kick arse under our own flag!

But yeah, we really need pacific servers...

Although, are we going to have the ability to host our own servers? (do forgive me if that's a stupid question)

Even with High as hell pings we can kick arse xD

I was told the EU server is going to be in Russia. So you can assume Pgi are going to go for the cheapest option, not the fastest for all concerned. this is fine as im in perth and ping to SE asian countries is pretty decent (depending on isp). did u know that all australian traffic goes through Guam and the west coast of america before it even gets to the servers. i think when it hits the westcoast of the US, Perth ping is approximately 150 but it bacially doubles crossing america for some reason. according to the trace route i did anyway.

yes my 240-300 makes so much lag in brawl siuations. a better server would be much appreciated.

sorry i can't join any premades, clans mercs etc. i only devote the odd hour or so to gameplay so i'd rarely be around to make up the numbers.

look forward to seeing you on the field!

Brisbane here. Been playing internet games since early 90s, played MW since Netmech on Kali. Ping has never been a problen just means leading a bit thats not game breaking. What is game breaking is bad netcode they dont seem to be able to fix or wont. Packet loss is the killer to us Aussies, s h i t f u l l American Lines and routers are the main cause. Also a while ago The Devs put a band aid on the people who were being droped from game because of bad packet loss (they admited to it) creating a problem for those that dont have loss. How many of you were droped back then because of loss? i bet few were i was never droped yet i have a 300+ ping.
Whatever they did to keep guys that had bad loss in game needs to be refixed.
We dont need an Aussie server, i want to play Vs the Yanks and Euros, what we need is for them to fix the Ffen netcode and penalise the guys with bad Packet loss whether its intentional or not, there are easy fixes for packet loss and there is definately those who use loss deliberately in games.

You do not need to make huge time commitments..http://mwomercs.com/...e-chat-servers/ ..Check out the EU server, usually Aussies there, and no need to be in a team, they form on the spot. ;) Even if you only have an hour or two, I highly recommend trying it out.
