hmmm...well either way i've stepped down off the ivybridge horse for now...only the z77 chipsets can handle the new ivybridges and they have a higher price tag. going with a i5-2500 (i dont need to overclock) and a ASrock extreme3Gen3

which after all the shipping will be about $750 USD (not couting rebates)

Actually the z68 boards and z75 boards also support Ivy.

some of the z68 boards do...ones that were built before ivybridges have to have the BIOS flashed...which requires A) taking it somewhere to do it or B ) having a compatible chipset. so i'm just going to nip it in the bud and get a z68...maybe from ASUS though...reading the reviews makes me kinda leery of ASrock >.> no offense but quite a few seem to have DOA boards :-S

If your going for a 2500 (which on newegg is more expensive than the K version on a weekend deal... at least reduce the 2500 to match...) im going to ask why?

Even if you do not intend to OC now, you don't know about the future so better to have the ability there should you need too later than pigeon hole yourself into not having it at a high cost.

I built a new system in the last few weeks.

The core of it the following:

Asus motherboard with Z77 chipset so I can go to ivybridge when its worth it.
i72700K - running OC about 3.9 without any issues
16 gig 1866mhz ram
180 GB SSD < MWO gets to go on here too :)
GTX 570 with 2560 MB of GDDR5
1 TB 7200 rpm HD

I picked up a 27" planar monitor on sale for 199 - 2 m/s response time.

All the other odds and ends, plus the coolermaster .. runs great.

Spent 1685.

I'd like to point out a law of averages; people are more likely to call attention to a negative happening than a positive one. And every company has a bad batch or two. Asus included.
Here is their high end board review; http://www.techradar...-1078292/review
