Obviously the game hasn't been released yet, however just want to remind that the music needs to keep growing with the game or else it'll all just end up on mute. Perhaps allow fans to donate music tracks of their own and function as a pseudo radio station network as well.

I usually turn the music off in these sorts of games anyway.

If the game features voice chat, someone will go and play 'never gonna give you up' all day long.

I wouldn't mind an in-game MP3 interface, but it's not necessary. If I run music while playing a MW game I just usually kick Winamp in the background and control it with the media keys.

i second the OP's thoughts
we wont need to get extreme or anything but a few new tracks every so often would rule
i also hope they dont force a set song per map
it gets stale way faster that way , but if a song was placed into a category it could be applied to any map that fits that mood
much like the way MW2 set lonely songs for Moon type environments and more aggressive songs for urban environments and cautious tracks for levels with many ambush points...ect
basically im saying make music to suit the feel of a given level but have a good selection of songs that fit and choose one at random per drop
after seeing the trailer i have total confidence in PGI's Audio team

This idea just popped into mind. Have music for the game, but use positional audio technology of some kind to make it sound like a radio or some such in the cockpit of the mech. And if you want to change tracks mid battle, maybe it can have the pilot turn the dial or flip a switch.
I think it would definitely enhance the immersion factor!

Having an in-game/cockpit player would be much better than using an outside program. If we have environmental noises, we will want to hear those over any music. Making the program turn down the music so we can hear an alarm, or talk to another player, and receive incoming announcements would help the play a lot.

stupid idea. mechwarriors have their head envevloped by a tanker's helmet with comms quipment over their ears. like fighter pilots, it'd have dampers to drown out the engine noise.
i'll be turning off music in-game. it just doesn't belong. i'm not 12 anymore.
