Iron Maiden or any heavy metal seems to suit the genre

Trooper by Iron Maiden
Battle Metal by Turisas
so many other metal songs it seems pointless to name them all, metal and metal robots a natural fit

Turisas FTW

Must admit seeing the game started in the early 80's I do feel if they go with dubstep/techno/dance I think it will not feel the same so I vote metal.
I mean dubstep? really pfffttt.

Screw your dubstep bullpoop and too well known bands like Iron Maiden.

If there's to be music in a Mechwarrior game, it needs to be strictly within certain genres (or mixes of them): tribal, industrial, electronic, rock, metal and classic. Violins rock hardest.

Now, if I'd suggest something from the more "rock it up" -category, I'd take instrumental versions of some of the less known songs of Tomoyasu Hotei, such as 'Believe me, I'm a liar' (ignore the vocals, concentrate on the music and don't tell me that isn't a Mechwarrior'esque song!)

Mechwarrior music needs to have a serious or dramatic tone.

Yea Boymonkey.. and I don't know which one is more f'd up, yours or mine. But if you take the vocals out, both are kinda Mechwarrior'esque.

Also: all dubstep fans, don't get me wrong. You can like your silly wubwubwub, but it's just not for Mechwarrior. I also like weird music, like this song by _ensnare_, I don't even know what you call this genre.. I guess it has some chiptune elements in it with something else:

But it just doesn't suit Mechwarrior. You don't get a feeling of piloting a big, dangerous warmachine, you get a feeling of flying around on a magical unicorn-pony that's puking and pooping rainbows while tripping on LSD.

So so true

Oh, I forgot to mention ambient as an acceptable genre.

This weirdly ominous song by Yuki Kajiura just reminded me (doesn't it sound almost like it came from MW2 soundtrack?):

I am only posting this since I am loyal to the mod. Mech Music has always had an eerie industrial theme in it for me :P

Hey that's my video! :)

I would like it to be a mix of Mechcommander 2 and Mechwarrior 2: Mercs.

OR what would be more awesome is that depending on which faction you are, your bg music changes with you. (Like Mechcommander 2 :D)

I've always liked MW2 OST and the music here:
http://ppc.warhawken...ises.com/1.html Make sure to select "Mech Pictures" from the side, as I can't link directly there, for some reason.
It just works for me.
If anyone knows what that music is from, please tell me.

An option to play your own music... wait, Media Player.

Seriously, will do as others and listen to my eclectic mix of old school rock and roll; From heavy stuff like AC/DC and Van Halen to lighter songs from Heart to Seger to name just a few.

If there is a score included will probably listen to it a few times but if it's new age techno... well, uhm... (must think of something positive to say..). Forget it, I got nothing to say about the new stuff.

If I get really creative, I'll turn off the sound to the game and plug the earphones into my MP3 player and run a Mechwarrior playlist. :)

Honestly, I think the original Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack has been the best of them all. It fit the game absolutely perfectly and I would love to see them use a very similar style or even remix those tracks.
Lets be honest here, the only time you are really paying attention to the music is when you are moving from waypoint to waypoint waiting for an ambush to be sprung on you and the music served perfectly to heighten your anxiety.
Once you get into combat the music is drowned out by klaxons blaring, energy weapons discharging, the overwhelming clamour of an LRM launch drowning out everything except for that little computerised voice reminding you that your core temperature is critical and that she is going to initiate a shutdown sequence on your behalf. (F*CK OFF *****!!! I'm getting shot at here! OVERRIDE OVERRIDE!)

Yes would be good to have some kind of Military theme ... brass section bias, minor key maybe ...

Personally, I turn the music down as I find it interfers with my focus on the game. Besides, real life does not come with an imbeded sound track. But to each his own.

Personally, I'd like for the music to be more on the ambient/orchestral side.

I wonder why no one brought up mechcommander:

and mechcommander 2:

Most tracks from theese titles fit quite nicely... sounds like danger ahead, yet calm enough as not to be offensive.

Instrumental only; no lyrics, but maybe vocalization. No heavy metal or rock and roll, no techno. More of a classical sound with a few tweaks.

A few examples:

The music from the 2009 trailer; the theme from "Terminator"; the looping soundtrack from "MechWarrior 3" and "Pirate's Moon"; the theme from "MechWarrior 4: Vengeance"; the installation music from "MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries".

It has to sound epic, somber, and heroic all at once.

@ Brakkyn

LOL! Did you actually tried to listen to my sugestion's idea?

Most of these posts seem to be more like musical preferances as a whole then preferances what would be decent for a videogame of the BT genre.

I mean Slipknot, Mötorhead and techno for crying out loud?

Oh well...I guess that's what you get letting trolling surats under democracy's umbrella... ;)

I always did like the music in the Mech Commander games.

The music everyone is posting for the most part doesn't fit as theme music. I think everyone is thinking of battle when they posted it. All that is just not appropriate for theme music. In the middle of battle when you have auto-cannon shells raining down on you that is the appropriate time for fast paced music.

The best fit for theme music would be something that gives this feeling of intensity, foreboding, epic, war like a march into battle. The BattleTech Universe is a very serious place. It is a place of near indefinite war, a place where the scale of destruction is beyond everything we know, a place where the battlefield is dominated by battle mechs.

Ok now that I have been listening to the Mech Commander music I want to play it. Mech Commander 2 had terrible game mechanics.
