So far this is really only speculation, based on three facts:
- the current ending apparently is crap
- the game tells you to hang on to saves, and look out for future DLCs
- EA has already pulled crap like that in the past, they may have reached a new extreme, but I can't say that I'd be supprised...
The big problem with all this is that they promissed us heaven and earth in advance to releasing ME3, a conclusion where all your choices matter. In fact from what I read, I can very well relate with all the fans who feels screwed over by EA and Bioware!
Again, I'm going to refrain from judgment until I've actually reached the end myself...

I can't bring myself to play any of the games in the short term because I'll always know that no matter what I do, it all ends in a crap shoot. So what's the point? The other side of me wants to go back and play all three games killing as many people as I can, since nothing done in any of the games really matters in the end lol.
I think you nailed what people are actually so upset about...
Through all three games you are given the impression of actually making a difference, of actually achieving something. Well from what I get you are actually making a difference, but is that really any better than what would have happened if you hadn't done anything?
Many many people seem to disagree, which you pretty much summed up.
Why would anyone want to go through that whole struggle, all the quests and get involved into the story as much as most people have, just to find out that all the emotions all the time and all the losses and decisions, where pretty much all for nothing?
Again, I haven't seen it myself, but to me it all sounds like a despicable attempt by EA to milk as much money out of the franchise as somehow possible, which they have done with others already, while not caring in the least that they will destroy it in the process.
