I wonder how much it would cost to buy the licenses to at least part of the unseen (the most popular ones) to use in this game. With so many of us willing to pay for them it might be possible to start a crowd-funding kinda of deal to buy them. I would certainly pay the U$25 the are charging for the Pretty Baby to have the Locust, Warhammer, Marauder or Thunderbold in game (as FTP mechs, mind you, to everyone).

Decals for unit patches including the ability to upload custom ones, this includes how some units put numbers on their Mechs.
Graffiti. Like Decals but a separate category with different locations on Mechs.
Besides cosmetics, in later years certain Tech from Advanced Levels of BT with separate matchmaking for those using the advanced tech.
GXP bonus packages to help buy modules.
Ideas from MechCommander:
Sensor Probes: each Probe can be used for a 1-2 second burst to reveal enemy Mech locations on the whole map.
Airstrike/Artillery Strike: Used for a 1 shot hit on a square chosen from the Battlegrid.
Minefield: package allows a minefield placed in a square chosen on the Battlegrid.
besedes cosmetics what you're suggesting is pay to win material. Won't happen or at least it shouldn't. The idea of seperate matchmaking is even more ludicrous.

Just to be complete: I don't have Ilya because to me it seems the only thing special about it is the fact it can wield 3 gauss if you really want to (a lolfit in the best case), I don't have the dragon brothers because I haven't played dragon at all so far (I'll look into them when I do). I don't have pretty baby because I don't see anything special about it (may be wrong, I haven't looked that closely). What else... Oh the commando... price is compelling but it's still a light with no ecm. So waiting to see what the upcoming changes do to that. (logs into game to check if I missed something). Nope that's it.
Really hoping for some actually interesting hero mechs to buy (I have to look into those dragons...)
Edit: did a quick look at the dragon brothers. Flame seems to be 1C that has left torso and right arm switched. Definately not enough to make it remotely interesting (I do realize torso can hold ac20 where a hand cannot, but still... it's not like it would be viable to mount ac20 and 4 LL or something to that. Besides Catafracht 1X is the same (more or less). Fang changes 1 arm ballistic to torso energy (compared to 5N) or gets another arm energy slot with the cost of CT missile. Okay these change things a bit (making it unique variant as stated and better than flame in this respect), but it's still nothing interesting and actually different.
Yes I'm hoping that the devs read this, because I want some good hero mechs. Give me a reason to buy them. Some switching around with hard points won't do it. Give them a better engine capbility than any other variant, with less weapons; or the other way around. Make me a catapult with 360 torso twist (but some limiting factor again). Make me an Atlas that can only move 40kph at best but can actually mount thos 3 gauss without it being a lolfit.
Make me want to buy it.

Examples would be:
* Hud colours - really this should be a basic game feature, I'd prefer a blue/green hud to the yellow/gold.
* The ability to change the style/layout of your cockpit. Things like screens, some mechs have setups that bug me like ravens with their screens blocking side window views and blinding me with reflections in caustic.
It would also be nice to just change the cockpit when I feel like it, after several hundred matches it gets a bit samey.
* Cosmetic hud features, kind of like hud widgets that just display non game breaking info..decibel meter for when the lrms are raining down, g-meter for when my jenner pulls a hard turn, small rotating 3d image of the mech you're targetting with info readouts (same thing you could get by looking top right but maybe numerical form and cooler looking).
I spend a lot of time in free look mode while runnin'n'gunnin so I notice a lot of things in my cockpits, it'd be nice to make it more personalised to what I want during a fight.

Pay MC to "Heroize" a a favorite non-hero mech causing it to give a C-Bill bonus like the heroes.

I'm having some issues with my Visa at the moment, but once that clears up, I'm planning on buying a YLW and a Muromets, and probably buy a hero Mech variant of the Atlas once it comes out.

In response to custom decals, I will just compare this to Eve Online: a bad game, since it has a 10 year track record.
CCP (company that runs Eve) only allows corps/clans/guilds to submit custom decals for approving. If they allowed every joe blow to add his custom decal to the game, it literally would become a game of "flying space-penises." If they allowed every joe blow to submit his decal for approval, they would have to wade through thousands of user and bot submitted phallic symbols to approve a handful of decent decals.
Only way to make custom decals viable is to limit how many are submitted, possibly by limiting them to the clan level.

You ment house/merc unit right? It will be a while before anyone can be a clan unit, and then, I suspect the clan will be limited in their customization.
Otherwise, i agree completely with you. But raise the factor of needing a set number of people in a house unit/merc unit/clan unit before you can submit something.
To the point though, I want the ability to use 8 man groups that actually match weight classes with other 8 man groups. IDGAF if it screws up the queueing for it (aka, 8 atlases cant find a match, or 8 ravens cant find a match). It's so annoying to try and sync drop with your 2 4 man groups and get put against each other/not even related to each other solidly half the time.

Also would pay for the ability to give my human-ish mechs (I.E. commando, atlas, hunchie, cent) balls and crouching (like a quick activatd ability, not literally a crouch) for teabagging.

How much would it cost me to drive a Thunderbolt adorned with the AC/DC logo blaring "Thunderstruck" with a pair of fuzzy dice hanging off the rear-view screen?
My suggestion on cash shop items: Clan tech.
that would turn the game from Free to Play to Pay to win. Period. No, bad idea is BAD.
But I would like to be able to customize mech's such as replacing the arm on the hunchback.. it doesnt do anything! maybe a spear or a palm or a skull you know? same thing with the fists on the atlas maybe make one into a mace head btw these would have no effect on gameplay just different models for the mech parts
