Things I would be happy to pay for (****=highest rating, *=lowest):
**** Custom looks for your 'mech:
-Fiction-based, e.g. Yen-lo-wang (Kai Allard-Liao's Centurion)
-Themed (Solaris, House color scheme)
-Camouflage/death/fire
-"WW2 dogfight style" (pinup model)
**** Custom cockpit decorations
-hula girl
-fuzzy rear-view-mirror d20
-bobble-head Cthulu doll
-cockpit mini-fridge
** Additional mech lab slots
* MC/C-Bills to buy new 'mechs and upgrades

Things I don't like paying for (even with XP):
-Pilot upgrades on mech variants I will never use
-Monthly premiums (for anything)

[Edit: Decided I like pilot upgrades. I still don't like having to get them for all variants, though!]

SLDF versions of ingame mechs, or even rares like Mackies. Oddball stuff like that.

One of the things I wouldn't mind. Is a music player in my cockpit <3. hell I'd love to be able to listen to my thrashmetal in-game, through an actual inferfacable media player in my cockpit. That would be so hot.

I like the idea of altering the appearance of your mech, I loved the catapult that has the guns instead of the missile launchers, stuff like that, mech color, lights colors, cockpit tinting, hud and reticule changes, name changes, leg, torso, arm, weapon changes would be a big thing, just appearance would be cool I would pay for storage space, mech bays, clan symbols, clan names, there are alot of options out there.

I would very much pay for an Eve- Online Based skill style and planet vs/ star system based progressions. I understand that would make the game much bigger but very much worth a subscription cost.

I guess idea would be multiple planets, Dropship towns/transport to other planets, and sandbox,

Uploadable picture to tape next to a display in the cockpit (and other stuff ... dice, mirror ball, & hula girls)
Solaris tournaments
Custom decals / nose art
Loyalty bonuses (with the "honorary" caveat attached to the rank ... until you actually prove yourself)

I want a bobble head Katherine Steiner-Davion doll on the dash of my mech. Maybe I can smack it when I get a kill.

The thing is you're not going to see the outside of your mech outside of the mech bay so it makes sense to have the customization in the cockpit.

it isn't just about you seeing the outside my friend, it is your enemies going oh crap here comes the guy with the purple catapult again this is gonna suck...

Neons.

Sure, they give you away, but having an underglow on your mech would look wicked! They could fit to certain silhoutte lines/ polygon edges or be hidden in recesses to give a glow. You might only attach them for arena games, for showmanship. However I realise this is MechWarrior and not Need For Speed, so I'm realistic that not everyone would approve. Glowing oculars/eyes/sensor lenses, however, might prove popular.

Custom decals/textures

ONLY for extremely advanced options. I expect a high level of customisation as part of the game, because MW is about customisation - the load-outs and paint schemes and everything. Heraldry is a big part of the BattleTech universe and vibe. However, perhaps people would buy extra layers of decals above the standard, so they can layer camo patterns and adjust opacity or apply extra battle-damage or victory honours.

Pilot / avatar animations and outfits?

I don't know if that would become part of the game, but perhaps designing your character is worth a little cash? Being able to sent a pop-up comm window of you taunting the enemy after hitting them would be great fun... Although it should only work periodically so you don't get spammed by with someone's pilot laughing and mocking you to the point its a real distraction. Perhaps you pick a personality type, and the game sends appropriate and unique messages to your foes if you do something skilful (or lucky.)

Overall, however, bought items in an otherwise free game can do more harm than good, so the developers will hopefully be cautious about it.

* * *

(eg: I was playing Battleship Craft, an app which was excellent because it was free and with patience and skill you could do well since you designed your own battleship to suit your style and if you made a good design it gave you a huge edge. I got to be ranked #39 out of 111,000 or so and the skills and tactics I developed fighting my way up were what gave me the edge in game-centre balanced fights. I earned all my weapons/engines etc with in-game cash and victories. Now, however, I don't play as all the best items require real world money to purchase and people can pay for ships and an unfair advantage they haven't earned through battles. It's ruined the balance of it and I've lost interest. MWO will avoid that, I hope, and it sounds like that's the developers' intention, which is fantastic.)

I had an idea for a module:
Advanced Power Coupling. This module when bought (real money) and installed would allow you to convert any hardpoint into an Energy Hardpoint. And of course removing the module would overload and fry it.

Also when buying a mech there should be a list with the number and type of available hardpoints.

I think customization of your mech should be free.

Hand to Hand combat. I would pay $50 to be able to run up and smack some other mech in the head why he struggles to fire his PPC at me.

havent read 48 pages of posts, but im sure its come up previously - adding it anyway:

pve/co-op campaigns, mission packs or things of that nature
maybe work the clan invasions in as npc/ai driven objective defend/wave maps, with small chances to salvage clan gear/mechs - even if they are near enough to destroyed and cost a lot of c-bills to repair - something of that nature

maybe even a standalone paid version of the game that lets you run lan servers (even if it phones home for your account/mech details) with your buddies

i dont have a problem paying 'money' for actual content, but im unlikely to spend much on things that can be earned in other ways

I think players would pay for advanced Tech. Classic 3025 Battletech weapons and mechs would be in the "free to play". This would represent the aspect of the Battletech universe where advanced tech was not available to all mechwarriors and many mercenary units. Players would "pay" for tech from the memory core discovered by Grayson Carlyle and for any Clan Tech that become available after 3050. Mechs created after the 3025 source book would also be a feature that I think many players would pay for.

I would pay money for :

1) Mechbays.

2) Pain job (predetermined by the DVs so not to overload the servers with thousands of different paint jabs made by players).

3) maybe just maybe pay to unlock a mastery skill or elite skill . . . . (if they implement it).

think you shouldn't be able to buy any and all mechs as it would make the game technically pointless as u could reach your end goal mech and be like . . . . "Yeah cool . . . . now what . . ?" maybe clan mechs only if they bring them out, if not then none.

An ever expanding universe.
I can buy an Xbox game if I just want updates but I really want some story.

PvP gets boring after a while and I really enjoy the PvE aspect of many games.
When I worked for Spectrum Holobyte and we ended up doing MW:4 it was the story and multi PvE play that I really enjoyed. Putting togeher multi units with my friends to take a base or lance group out was great and just another LAN Party game that we enjoyed.

With an Online game I'm expecting something other than PvE all the time expecially if I'm going to pay for it.
I play most Online games for a bit but the ones that keep my interest are the ones that keep adding content.
Eve, Star Wars, Star Trek, Rift, and now I am also playing Terra (we will see how that goes.)
Once they stop I usualy just move on ... my longest account has to be with City of Heroes becuase of all the story add ons and espeicaly with the world building ability for players to make and publish thier own quest/missions. i'm also a Lifetime member of Star Trek for the same reasons.

I would suggest with so many mechs available at this time period that they could release one every couple of months and it would take years to release them all.

People seem to confuse pay to win with making enough money to keep the lights on......just because certain mechs would be only available for premium purchase does not make them any better than the more common ones. You can only pay for so much lolipop crap before it gets old. All those camo and fuzzy dice isn't going to be able for them to charge a premium amount because people just won't pay it. Sure maybe a few of you would buy a polished **** if it had battletech stamped on it but most won't and you need most to finance the game.

Well this is the fine balance of F2P games. They do need income from either other sources or from the F2P community but how they do that would be like. . . guessing when they release open beta . . ;)

thing would have to be priced correctly with plenty of variety for plays to buy from. Say Clan Mechs (probably be the most expensive), Perm account and vanity items.

Clan ammo for me is a MASIVE NO NO as it gives an advantage over other players unless it just means u could carry more ammo than normal not dealing ridiculous damage.

If im really honest probably CBills and I would expect alot of players would too.

In addition to my previous comment, players who pilot light mechs would pay for Guardian ECM suites and NARC beacons. This would greatly enhance the tactical use of light mechs in a field dominated by heavy and assault class mechs.
