How to get the items:

• If you’re a subscriber to our US edition, get your unique item redemption code on pg. 98.
  
• If you’re not, buy a copy of the PC Gamer US December issue (#233) when it goes on sale on newsstands and digital retailers on October 9. Go to pg. 98.
  
• See the aforementioned page for redemption instructions.

Also of note, the "hidden gem" as the OP says:

"This month, anyone who picks up the MechWarrior Online issue of PC Gamer in North America will receive two free MWO items and instant access to MWO’s closed beta."

So this could be another way for those to get into beta without buying founders or waiting for access?
