I'm worried about the requirements...never tested CryEngine 3 games on my PC.How heavy is the engine? Can a 2009 machine run it smoothly?

I have the CryEngine 3 SDK running on my machine:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
2048MB RAM Memory
ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 1 GB Memory

and it runs pretty smooth. I guess if you avoid to set up visuals to Ultrainsane a 2009er would make it.

This sounds pretty damned amazing.

So, there WILL be a 3rd-person view mode?

I was a bit worried about the comparison with mech 4. I did enjoy that game but there was too much not to like about it. Ie arcade..no sim qualitys..mech animations were too fps for my taste. Lost all illusion of piloting a mech. Saying that I'm confident that PGI did it right. Really looking forward to seeing some gameplay today hopefully. Just to put a few things to rest in my mind.
Cheers

Wow they gave MWO a damn good review! Awesome! I know a few people who are in love with that site. Maybe it will bring them to the Mech side. We have PPCs

i was hoping to hear the jenner called in fire support more than summoned his atlas friend. really interested in the types of damage associated with that. very exciting write-up and hearing that hypes me more.

I am hoping that the upcoming discussion about the MechLab will erase or at least ease my concerns about how it is going to be implemented. Whatever we get, I'll deal, but a "full-featured mech lab" leads me to believe the game would devolve into another boat-fest, like in the past--a concern that has been raised numerous times before.

I've noticed that the guy playing the demo listed his 'Mech's weapon loadout, and the MechLab, but apparently didn't adjust his weapons loadout at all, or failed to mention it. I'd think that would be worth mentioning. Is this telling?

I am also wondering what a "full-featured mech lab" entails, but I guess we'll find out when they give us the other half of the Mech Warfare blog post. Hoping they rein it in so there won't be boating and min/maxers out the ***. Though I suppose a certain degree of that will be inevitable regardless of how the mech lab goes.

I'm not worried about the boaters. A lot of Mechs in the books are boats. The MadCat is a missle boat with a couple of lasers thrown in, for example. Granted we won't see the MadCat right off the bat, but still...

From what I've read it plays more like Mechwarrior 3 and not 4 but that is just nitpick from me. :]
The devs have expressed they're going to be taking the best elements from all previous games and including them, here. So, perhaps the author was a MW4 player most prolifically, and most recently, and that was his only point of reference. I hate MW4, but I take his reference, and things I've read and heard, as positive words; not everything in MW4 was absolutely horrid, and the fact that I've heard it described as play similar to MW3, as well, makes the devs words true, and I'm looking forward to seeing this.

No, that's a diagnostic mode only. The devs were up-front about first-person view.

I guess/hope that by "full-featured mech lab" he meant the modules you can plug in. I'm not a great fan of a MW3/4 Mech Lab.
IMHO it's abilities would be able to destroy the game by ppl again only minmaxing loadouts and take out their "boats" out on a walk for a "LGauss-craterrim-hopfeast".
If I counted that right we currently have 7 chassis to choose from and if they got the variants in already which exist in 3049 it would make up upto 21 different variants to choose from. Even if we would have only about 12 'Mech-chassis to choose from at start, it would include plenty possible variants to suit your style.
That are my 2 cents.

The default configuration of the Timber Wolf features a well blended mix of energy and missile weaponry; primarily extended-range lasers and long range missile racks that give the Timber Wolf considerable firepower at medium and long range. A pair of LRM-20 racks supplemented by two Extended Range Large Lasers make up the bulk of the Timber Wolf's firepower. The Timber Wolf also has an array of lighter, shorter ranged weaponry for use once the 'Mech draws closer to its prey: two ER Medium Lasers and a Medium Pulse Laser. Finally, it has two Machine Guns for point defense against infantry. Even on the modern battlefield the primary configuration of the Timber Wolf is a force to be reckoned with

Missile boat with a couple of lasers? lol

hmm... but WHY would you want to engage more than one target at once? While the arms being independent sounds cool on paper, I don't see how it's a better tool/tactic than alpha, alpha, alpha on one target.

But it could be the author don't have any former experience that that. And had been that excited that he forgot to take screens or vids.

MW4 had the best multiplayer experience in the series...

I don't think its mainly for 2 targets at once, the Torso shudders and moves around a lot more than the arms would, or i would hope plus I would also assume that the arms move faster and have a greater arc of fire considering you are going to have to move your torso to aim your torso weaponry (also means attacking smaller mechs at closer ranges will be more difficult in larger mechs especially legging them). So I am going to say your arms will generally be better for accuracy while moving and strafing targets

that aside I could be wrong I don't know how the controls are configured and what the Limitations of the angle of movement the torso's have up/down

I knew this would happen, and now the repetitive part of my job begins ;)

1) There's no third person view. None. It doesn't exist. It was a debug command used to show off the 'Mech being piloted (imagine an HLTV kind of thing, where you can see what the person piloting is doing)

2) "While the arms being independent sounds cool on paper, I don't see how it's a better tool/tactic than alpha, alpha, alpha on one target." If you have an AC/20, using it AND four medium lasers AND your LRM's AND your SRM's on a single injured arm is a pretty terrible idea. I once used a Hunchbacks AC/20 to destroy an enemy Hunch's AC/20, while using my arm-lasers to destroy one of his arms.

3) This is still alpha stuff here, so don't assume this is the way everything will be when the game is released B)

I only know, by reading the preview... can't wait to play the scout
But multivector aiming sounds difficult at first, also I wonder how this could be done without the weapons shooting all at once even if they dont have a fire solution (like in MW4) and I really hope my Machine can run the game without fps drops and heatproblem (older one)
