I just made the mistake and read the comments following the article on the PC Gamer website. I'm just happy that these people have no say in the development of MWO. I definitely don't need a second Hawken (which looks like Unreal Torunament with robots on steroids). But these comments are bs no matter how good the journalists are who provide the article.

Oh and why are bland colours bad? It's not what people were saying when The Witcher, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age entered the stage. Colours add to the atmosphere, and they catch the tristess of war in the screenshots perfectly. Great... now these leet kids got me enraged...

I did take the time to read it - and the info is not as good as you'd think. I will direct you to this article:

http://massively.joy...warrior-online/

That is far better written and has more information than the IGN one.

As I said, the article has errors and it isnt particulary well written. However, may I direct you to this little snippet from the IGN article...

"Water will also cool your mech's heat level if you strategically place your heatsinks on your legs, and can make the difference if you're fighting on a world with many shallow bodies of water."

Thats the first time in any article I have seen where you can actually place your heat sinks in your legs.

Also....

"How each player fights will potentially depend as much on the environment as it does their loadout. The Mechwarrior universe takes place on hundreds of worlds, meaning battles won't always take place in serene mountains with grass and trees. Fighting in a desert means less cover for mechs to hide behind, but also, due to the extreme heat in the environment, makes thermal imaging less efficient. The reverse of this are ice worlds, where your weapons will be slower to overheat, and you'll easily stand out to a good mech commander who's watching their scanners"

Again, more info that I havent seen in any other articles including the link you posted (that I had already read).

Are you sure they didn't hear about MW:O and just play a half hour of MechAssault?

Why did you make a new thread?
We discussed that waaay back when they originally did the preview and devs are fully aware of it.

I didn't - this thread was raised from the dead. Look at the post time stamps.

Cant spell ignorant without IGN

But I don't particularly hate them or anything, some of their articles are interesting and funny. Just don't treat the gaming press that seiously and you'll be ok...

edit : ahh damn...i posted in a necroed thread :)

As stated elsewhere already, despite the reporter being unfamiliar with the franchise, what IGN reported on MWO was overwhelmingly positive. They might unable to differentiate between Atlas and Titan, but they had only good things to say in topics important for potentially new players (admit it, all it took to get most of us hooked was whispering the word "'Mechwarrior"). And it's those new players, that look for a visually appealing f2p game different from everything out there, that we need for this game to being a huge success.

This level of FAIL lends no credence to the reporter at all and should be tossed out compeletely. Despite its glowing fluff, all we know is that the reporter is qualified to stand transfixed with dilated pupils exclaiming that they "can taste the pretty colors!" We can in no way take this as any form of qualitative statement as to the merits (or lack thereof) of anything beyond the reporters lack of interest (or complete alienation from) the subject at hand. The only true statement to be made is that the author is better suited to slinging pitchforks of fertilizer at any given topic than to specifically detail the merits of MWO.

It looks like some people noticed the typo, as when you visit the article now it reads "Iconic heavy mechs like the Atlas". Well, one out of two facts isn't too bad...

As bad as this is, I've seen worse.

Once I saw G4 on TV with one of their hired models that know nothing about gaming game reviewers talking about how what she was looking at was Street Fighter, going on a scripted ramble, while staring straight a screen of Art of Fighting.
