Deadstop + Slipping/Drifting + heat

Heat related to movement was mentioned in another post and heat being generated in order to emergency break your mech was also discussed.

My thoughts are, the faster your going the more heat you'd create from dead stopping due to friction and mech muscle myomer + engine strain, this which is also another commonly held view.

With a dead stop, Inertia the properties of objects in motion to stay in motion would definitely apply and with that would come slipping or to more skillfully put it, mechanized drifting.

Surfaces that would be more driftable then others would be cement, dirt, grass. Antidrift would be sand, water and other sucking earths. As a self envisioned light mech pilot I want to get the most outta my mech. Doing racing techniques based on real world physics is entirely sim related don't you agree?

ManDaisy, you and I want to play completely different games.

20+ tons on a small footprint would not "drift" on anything other than very hard surfaces the feet will dig in and if the legs aren't lifted the mech will fall over. I vote no to sliding.

i would vote "yes" to sliding if it could be properly implemented in a video game. However, I think that's one of the things that doesn't translate well.

As for what ManDaisy is talking about . . I have no clue.

Do you mean that say a mech would have the a chance to trip over it's own feet as it came to a stop due to inertia? If so, I was under the impression that that was what "slowing down" was for . . .

Mmmmm, yes Slipping leads to falling.
Falling leads to crashing.
Crashing leads to damage.
I sence much Slipping in the city maps.

Yes for heating from emergency stop, perfectly logical.
No to drifting, makes little sense, if the location of mech centre of mass is taken into account(hint: it's rather high :P).
Yes to a chance of falling. Again perfectly logical.

Not necessarily. Humans have a really high center of gravity with a small footprint as well, but people slide all the time on really grippy surfaces.

Not necessarily. Humans have a really high center of gravity with a small footprint as well, but people slide all the time on really grippy surfaces e.g tennis players playing tennis.

They could for example, give the lighter mechs had the ability to do this



It could also be used to slide to weave under buildings or bridges and dodge someone aim etc to mix up gameplay a little.

In fact this is a good dev suggestion.

So what, something like a raven could easily spread its legs, lock them and slide.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little skid on hard surfaces like rocks and pavement. Dirt, not so much. Many mechs are heavy enough they are pretty much physically impossible with their ground pressure. Safe to say they'd dig in plenty in soft terrain.

I am not into sliding due to inertia, but I am all for high speed turns past a certain Gyro limit resulting into your Mech not being controllable thru the turn. IE, you wipe out and fall.
