There is a considerable amount of lore in the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe, to put it lightly. Your best bet would probably be to go to the Battletech Wiki at www.sarna.net to get an overview of it all. Alternately you could try to get a hold of some of the old novels or sourcebooks. I believe some sourcebooks are available as PDFs, and I know for a fact that a few of the novels at least are available as Kindle editions (Decision at Thunder Rift, Mercenary's Star and Wolves on the Border I know for a fact are available as I have the Kindle edition of those on my IPad).

As for MWO anything up until the beginning of the Clan Invasion in the early 3050's is probably most relevant at the moment.

Okay I've downloaded the direct download for MW4 but its giving me some jargon that I don't have the right codec installed :S

i tried living legends only to get disappointed

this game looks good.

I tried LL way when it first became available and dropped it. I tried it again recently and thought it was great. Maybe he tried it early like me.

That being said, even if it is great, I'm spending my time on other games until MWO.

I only have one major gripe about MWLL, and it has killed my enjoyment of the game enough that I don't play it often these days. Elementals, fully-suited in their armor, fit inside the cockpit of the mechs in MWLL; it is really annoying when you spend the time whittling down the armor on an enemy mech, and manage to destroy it, only to have them pop out right before you do, already suited-up in armor. This kind of ruins the satisfaction of destroying an enemy mech, when you then have to waste even more time splattering an Elemental before you actually get credit for the kill you earned when you destroyed the mech.
