Being 8 foot tall doesn't necessarily make him OP, if he's suffering from giantism, he can't even lift his own weight and the cockpit is gonna be very cramped for him.

difference is that if he had giantism, he would not be able to carry anything significantly weighty, such as substantial amounts of body armor. strain on his spine would be too much. also, it defines him as heavily muscled. AKA, dude is an elemental

I was just making the point because my guy does suffer from it :)
He uses steroids to stop his muscles completely deteriorating - 45 is old for a giant.

No one said he's doing it particularly well did they?
Despite having been a mechwarrior for 20 years, he's only competent. As you can tell from the specs, his mech is kitted out for taking soe shots at range and hauling things off the field - no more, no less.
Plus, I'll be honest, I haven't fully thought this through yet, but it was a concept I found quite interesting so I decided to go for it.

the character that you made, considering our really weird group atm, should fit right in.

just going to point out, we have 2 lams, a ph-hawk, a thug, a salvager, a demolisher, and exterminator, a shootist, and whatever GAD III is piloting, cause honestly i don't know what he is piloting. as well as that planetlifter

honestly our combat power is not that high for taking on something like a star league cache. the salvager, and your shootist are going to be rather lightly armed for their size. the "Chupacabra" doesn't even have any weapons. and most of what we got left is rather short ranged. the thug is really the only long range unit on this mission.

so needless to say, this is gonna be interesting.

We do have plot armor on our side though. That counts for a lot.

also, if any Skye Rangers show up here, I am apologizing in advance. A lot of the reason I swallowed my pride to admit that I was wrong about stuff in the argument on the honor among thieves section was that I was trying to get away from the rangers constantly badtalking me. But it seems they have followed me here. If they do start trying to go after me again, I will do everything I can to keep them from spamming these threads.

I know someone for that, so don't fret none dal10, if it happens we'll take care of it.

Hi. I'm that guy. You probably know the one. Sorry about the unnanounced post, it's my first time posting in the RP threads on this site and Oni shot me a message informing me of my mistake. If you deem me unfit to join, feel free to delete my post, I won't take offence, but treat this as a learning experience. Now, onto my character. (note, Oni also recommended making 2 minor revisions, and I have already rectified them in my post, just in case.)

Basically the character is as I described, although the height has been modified to about 7'2" (still tall I know, but as I told Oni I'm 7'4" IRL and almost always play the big guy.) Also, no he doesn't suffer from gigantism, he's just large, and no he's not a clanner in disguise. I wanted to be able to pilot the Lynx, a heavily modified 8Q variant (with extra large cockpit, of course) if allowed, and threw in the Atlas just in case I wasn't (Atlas is removed pending approval).

Now, for some backstory:

Altruin is a merc from the Periphery, specifically the planet Alaron, located in The RIft, close to Lyran space. His parents moved from their homeworld on the Lyran - Draconis border, where they had lived their entire life, after a Combine-aligned mercenary raid forced them to evacuate their home. Tired of the fighting, they moved to the other side of Lyran space and kept going, nothing more than mere colonists.

Once they reached the small planet known as Alaron, they felt as if they were home. His mother took up teaching in the colony, as she did before the journey, while his father became a mechanic, working on the various tanks, aircraft, and the few Frankenmechs the colonists managed to cobble together to fend off bandits. Bandits rarely attacked the small colony, but they gratefully accepted the aid of a skilled mechanic. Their life was a hard, simple one, but they enjoyed it. 2 years later, Altruin was born.

His early childhood was unremarkable, aside from his large stature, being homeschooled by his mother, taught how to fight by the few retired soldiers and mercs who guarded the colony, and how to build and repair tech by his father.

When he was 12, his life changed forever. Basically, in the summer bandits struck the colony by surprise. Young Altruin, having some time in a mech simulator, and promised to be taught by the old guards, he took an empty Franken Commando, and managed to defeat the bandit leader in single mech to mech combat. However, his mother had been killed during the assault, scarring the young man. Impressed by his heroics, several of the surviving defenders took him under their wing, teaching him how to pilot. His size made it difficult, but he learned to manage.

When he was 16 he set out and hunted down the remaining bandits. He became a mercenary, fighting bandits and scum in The Rift for 4 years, before going Sphere bound, looking for more challenging jobs.

He has spent the next 12 years fighting across the Inner Sphere, accepting any contract so long as he deemed them honourable. He eventually acquired his Lynx as payment for a job, which he has modded to suit his needs. How he has come to be in the employ of the mysterious Gabriel Dante is currently unknown.

(not bad for 20 minutes of using my imagination)

As previously stated, I would be honoured if you'd accept me, I'm on whenever I'm not at work or stuck in reality. If not, I accept your decision. Thanks for your time.

Well the decision is really up to GAD III. but I can understand making mistakes. I have made a number of them myself. my only real issue with him, besides the fact he was practically an elemental, is that he had an incredibly arrogant tone of voice. (which if you want to play that way is fine, but don't expect him to have many ingame friends.) You got the basic motivation point down. As for the lynx, I gots no problems with it, it is still decently fast, while packing a decent punch.

other than that I got nothing.

So how old is your character? 32? And I'm all for Franken-Commados, but what was that bandit leader using when you defeated him?

I'm not trying to bust your balls, I'd just like to see this character fluffed up a bit. But that being said, I am not the GM here and I only offer those questions as a suggestion for more detailed back history.

Oh and welcome to the Fanfic forums!

I like the concept, but even the clans don't begin putting trainees into mechs until they're in their mid teens, a twelve year old soloing a bandit leader in a broken down Commando snaps my WSoDB pretty hard. Knock the age up for some of the events and it sounds good to me.
The only other thing is I'd suggest coming in as one of us randoms - SOP on the boards is before having a background that incorporates another character, get the OK from them first (It rarely conflicts, but every so often you find you've just broken the story //Personal experience may be included). This goes doubly when tagging along with the GM's designated pro/antagonist - again, personal experience says never ever interfere with the GM's backstory. Fast talk him all you want in the present (But watch out for falling rocks), but never change his backstory without asking him in private. Some GMs are just damn unreasonable when they realize your backstory includes you having run into the character who he's just told you is the Big Bad in passing, and would thus be able to identify him if you saw him.
When he's standing at the bar eavesdropping.
About to pretend to be a lead and the primary source of our inside info and constantly lead us into traps.
And is looking at us.
And I immediately kneecap him with a damage roll so high I tear his legs off with a bar stool.
And immediately end the campaign he spent nearly twelve hours writing.
...
Anyway, hope this doesn't come off as busting your balls, to quote Thom, just trying to help out - but I do tend to be pretty blunt and that comes off harsh on the forums sometimes. Hopefully you can take the commentary on board and GADIII approves you :(
Looking forward to seeing more from you, and as Thom said, welcome!

P.S. Do we have an inauguration ceremony for new guys? We should have an inauguration ceremony for new guys. Like making him pull a panty raid on GW.

EDIT: Yes Thom, that is why I wanted to kill a mech with a bar stool so much.

Thinking it over, it'd be nice to have an Atlas on our side... We are painfully under gunned.
