We had about 35 running drops last night, would love to have a few more who were interested in running. With the Meta game now kicking off, we have seen some great matches.

Don't be afraid if you still have to learn stuff about the game, this is the right spot to get training support. We'll run in group with you and coach you through TeamSpeak on the run.

There are also training sessions for those who are interested in developping specific skills.

Come join us and have fun.

A brief history of the Blackthornes Dragoons within MWO:

Blackthornes Dragoons are a unit that originated prior to the fall of the Star League. During that time they were known as the 38th Dragoon Regiment. Due to the heavy action it saw on world beyond the Periphery, the group was unable to rendezvous with Kerensky’s fleet prior to their Exodus from known space. Rather than be caught in the turmoil that was starting, the group chose to lay low on the planet Alhena, making its livelihood through transportation and security. This security force would eventually be retasked to a full time mercenary company that specialized in garrison duty, defending multiple coreward worlds of the Free World’s League up until the Deep Raid of 2987. When a Lyran strike force invade their home planet, the Blackthornes Dragoons did their best to defend the world, but were soon betrayed by reinforcements intended to relieve them from the conflict. To protect themselves while rebuilding, the corps entered into direct service with the Halas family of Oriente.

In 3014, a plot was uncovered that involved elements of the Hearth Guard intending to take possession of the Overlord Class Dropship in order to commandeer the Blackthornes ancient jumpship, despite it being recently decommissioned. Once it was confirmed that these elements were in league with Anton’s Rebellion, they were confronted directly on the plains of Salur where the group was supposedly amid training exercises. A short but vicious battle ensued that left the Hearth Guard gutted once more. Since that time, Blackthornes Dragoons have relied on the work of its 2nd Battalion, the Widowmakers, for keeping the corps afloat in such turbulent times. After finally fulfilling its contract with the Halas family, the unit has returned to its former mercenary status, signing up with StarCorps Industries on Emris IV as both protector and testing crew for its growing R&D department.

Currently this mercenary unit maintains its headquarters on Emris IV, as well as a training ground on Salur. Their primary forces are divided between two battle-ready battalions: the Hearth Guard and the Widowmakers. A third battalion, known simply as the Dragoons, is primarily used for training and recruitment, though there are plans to expand this group into a full battalion should the opportunity arise. There are also reports of several reserve and retired pilots, known collectively as the Old Guard, who have been seen intermittently throughout the ranks each battalion. These forces have seen action mostly in the form of surgical strikes along the Lyran Border, but have also been used in defense of key sites along the Davion border as well.

Once considered one of the most rigorous in its approval of new pilots, they have since thrown off many of their archaic rules in order to revitalize their recruiting base. Cadets and Veterans alike are encouraged to sign up and join in dropping with this venerable corps.

We are more than just a unit that grinds away. We have those who enjoy the canon and table top, as Aranzor's post shows. He is our lore master and he loves to write up stories for our unit. If you're looking for a flexible, friendly unit with a driven, winning mentality composed of laid-back, friendly mech pilots, then you should try dropping with us.

After leaving a high-profile, extremely competitive unit that I joined at the end of closed-beta, I decided I had to find a more flexible unit that could accommodate my nutty schedule. I found BTD, dropped a few times with them, and was sold.

After being with the unit for just about a year now, BTD accommodated a leave-of-absence for a few months while I was working and attending grad school, and when I had time again and got back into MWO a couple months ago, immediately helped me to pick up where I left off (after shaking off some rust). We play competitively and are regularly active in league play as well as CW. We have different battalions for pilots looking for different levels of commitments (e.g. we have a 'casual player' battalion, a battalion for competitive league play, etc).

Any given evening, you can sign into BTD teamspeak and join a CW group, a 'casual' group grinding cbills and xp, players solo dropping who are almost always happy to group up, and often training sessions being run by light, medium, heavy and assault drop leaders. Whether you're frustrated with mandatory time restrictions many other competitive units have in place or if you're a new player looking for guidance, or anything in between, try dropping with the Blackthornes!

Read through some forums and apply on our website here:

We are always looking for new recruits. If you have a good attitude and are willing to listen, we're looking for you! There is room for competitive and casual play. We usually have plenty of people that will group up for Public Que and CW drops at night (NA Time). We also participate in the Marik Civil War.

Well it's been far to long since I posted here. I welcome anyone who likes to play MWO wants more than the pug life but don't want to feel pressured into the competitive scene. With that said we do compete in the competitive leagues too. Just stop on by our TeamSpeak and check us out.

Let them know were you heard about us and let the fun begin. B)
