I know I could have gotten better components in some areas but this machine will cost me just over $830.00 with shipping and will play most current games without any major issues. I can go in later and upgrade once I recoup some funds as well.

Please share your thoughts, just keep it constructive if you would please.

As much as I like building my own PC, I don't like it when something breaks and I don't know the best way to troubleshoot it. Even as an IT administrator, stuff can go wrong in your piece-by-piece rig that can make you scratch a bald spot.

When I buy from CyberPowerPC.com, I get to pretty much build my own system from a huge list of components, it turns on when it arrives and I can get to playing, AND you get lifetime technical support. I'm just suggesting that you might not mind having them build it for you.

Other than that. Great build.

Yes, I tried to build this rig (or one comparable to it) using cyperpowerpc and using the components I listed, it was going to run me upwards of 950 to 1000 dollars. My best friend got a computer through them and he is very pleased with it, to be sure. I may use them in the future but for now I'm trying to get as much bang out of my money as I can. I do love their website though and have built several 'dream machines' on there were I to ever find myself sitting on a large chunk of disposable income.

Okay, I know you're trying to save now and upgrade later.
I might still recommend trading up to the i5 2500K.

Then you have a built-in upgrade for later. You can run it stock now.
Then, later on, as your budget allows, throw a slightly beefier cooler on it and overclock.
A relatively quick, inexpensive performance boost.

Glad to see you are getting a new rig Havok, you earned it. Also Timber Thats a sweet rig and i am glad you happy with it but I built my rig for less than half that with a 2700k dual 6950 2gb's a Corsair HX1000w psu 16 gb of 1866mhz a 256gb Crucial M4 SSD and triple 23 inch 1080p monitors and that was in or below the 2k range now I understand that for many time is money and for me Building is part of my work but for the vast majority of gamers they are going to be better served building their own PC. Like I said though thats a sweet rig and as long as your happy thats whats important.

Anywho make sure to turn this into a build thread Havok, I want lots of step by step pics

I would seriously wait on the vid card. nVidia is ramping out their next gen card within the week. Now, if your not locked into a particular brand card then check out the reviews for the 7870. You can get stock 580 performance w/o the price tag. Also, the OC headroom on the 7870 is great if you want to go that way.

Agreed, be patient with the GPU. I would stick with the integrated graphics until the market adjusts. Also keep an eye on newegg open box and refurbished GPUs

Another option you may consider is getting an AMD build and getting an FX-4100 for now, which ranges $95-110. You'll also save a bit on your motherboard. You can pop that extra $$$ towards a better GPU like the 7870 or a Nvidea card which is able to compete with it. And for the price, a 7850 is a better deal than a GTX 560 if you can put a bit more money down. (which will be probably in the $30-50 more range)

Dude, that is a RIP OFF. I just priced out your $4000 computer using the same OR BETTER parts for less than $2250 minus the water-cooling. I have a slightly better performance wise computer than your $4000 build, and I can replace it for $3000, including the 30" 2550*1600 $1000 monitor I have.

I dealt with Cyberpower once, had an old high school friend who wanted a custom PC, didn't want to build it, and I live 1000 miles away now, so I walked her through parts. Since it was only like a $700 build to begin with, the premium she paid wasn't the worst thing ever, so she accepted it after I laid out the price difference (I still recommended building, but she wouldn't budge ). Still, it was like a $200 price premium; that's just too damned much. The percentage gets no better for expensive machines; apparently it even gets worse.


They may have competent tech support, but honestly, you can get the same thing here, or over at the MMORPG.com forums where I also occasionally post (Quizzical's a great guy over there, and basically a full-time poster), or at numerous dedicated tech forums. Actually, this place has been a notch above almost every other forum, not because our smart guys are any smarter, every forum has those, but because I've seen very few blatantly wrong suggestions/assertions passed off as computer fact that has ended up misguiding people.

The point being, there's really no reason to pay for tech support these days, not of the sort you get there. Sure, it's one thing if you want to pay $30,000,000,000,000,000,000 for your computer so that you can walk in and get live help anytime from the Apple "Genius Bar" (*snicker*), but over the phone help? Seriously, just ask a forum!

To be perfectly honest, considering there is only a $30 difference in price between the i5 2300 and the i5 2500(non K model), I personally would have opted to spend the extra $30 for the extra 500mhz the 2500 would give.

Yeah barbaric and I would have gone AMD in that budget range but really what he has will be enough for him easily and the only thing he might have to upgrade for MWO is his Vid card which he already knows so thats a solid build in my book.

Update: Here's some pictures of the pre-build, still waiting on my power supply to arrive in the mail, but past that, this is everything.
